It was a cool morning in Kirigakure. Standing at the west gates was Ryoko. Her long orange hair fell around her back and shoulders as she rested herself up against the gate. Ryoko was waiting for a genin who was coming with her on this simple C ranked mission. Her name was Iku Yasui. She was thirteen years old white hair lavender eyes. She was five foot and one inch and weighs a healthy one hundred and seven pounds. This genin was not one of her own but she was happy to take her out on a mission or two. Ryoko had spent so many years away from the real world during her time of depression and she had to get back out and get to know people again. The loss of her daughter was huge burden on her and caused her to spiral into a deep depression. Ryoko can still remember some of her days locked in her room crying while she held onto the blanket her daughter had been wrapped in when she died.
Sighing softly to herself she brushed a few long strands of hair out of her face as she looked up to the sky. The sun was slowly rising over Kirigakure and the mist was slowly flowing in from the nearby water that would soon cover the large village in a thick mist. ”This should be an easy mission,” whispered Ryoko as she looked out into the land of water from the gate. Closing her eyes she held tightly to her elbows as she pressed her arms tighter to her stomach. Ryoko didn’t like being alone for too long during times like this. Early mornings have always been hard for her since her daughter had died around this time of day and her body won’t let her forget. Closing her eyes she hummed softly to herself to preoccupy herself until Iku got here.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true]MAYBE IT'S A DREAM, MAYBE NOTHING ELSE IS REAL Iku was incredibly excited, to say the least. Not only had her hair and wardrobe cooperated that morning - to her surprise - but she was going on her first B-Rank mission! As far as she knew, she was the only genin from her team that had ever gotten that honor, and oh, she was going to spend hours bragging about it to Kazue once the mission was over.
For once, she looked like she was taking her profession seriously; her hair, which fell down past her knees, was neatly braided and her bangs were pinned back so they wouldn't get in the way. And she wasn't wearing a dress, something that could almost be considered a miracle. Knee-length gray shorts and a white t-shirt weren't the most flattering articles of clothing in the world, but for once, she was aiming to impress through her skills, not her appearance.
Despite all the excitement, Iku couldn't help but be a little nervous; she'd never met the jonin, this Nakamura Ryoko, that was in charge on this mission. In fact, the only thing she knew about the woman was that she had nice hair and was her darling Kuro's sensei... which meant that, despite her age, he had probably tried to hit on her at least once. That boy was totally incorrigible, but he did know how to give a girl a good time.
Iku reached the gate, quarterstaff in tow, and found the woman easily. She didn't look like she was feeling all that well... "Hey, uh, Ryoko-sensei? Are you alright?" It would suck if they had to call off the mission because the jonin was ill, but there wasn't much she could do about that. Figuring that she should probably introduce herself, despite being sure that the jonin would know her, the genin cleared her throat. "Ah, I'm Iku, Yasui Iku. It's nice to meet you."
Normally she was nowhere near this polite, but she got the impression that this woman probably wouldn't hesitate to kick her ass if she got mouthy. And besides, this was a good day, and she wanted it to stay good. Make friends with Kuro's sensei, pull off a flawless mission, you know... a good day. and it wouldn't mean a thing if i told you how i feel WORDS: 385. NOTES: ~O~ TAGS: ryoko. Ryoko sighed softly to herself as she sensed a small chakra signature approaching her position. Turning her attention back to the village she saw her new teammate and pupil in a way coming her way. She was very cute. Smiling softly at the girl she pushed herself off the gate and letting her arms fall to her side. ”I’m fine was just thinking,” replied Ryoko softly as she smiled at the girl in front of her. After a few moments the girl introduced herself to Ryoko. Ryoko already knew who she was of course but it was still very polite of her to introduce herself properly. ”It’s nice to meet you Iku-chan. My name is Ryoko Nakamura,” greeted Ryoko in return. Closing her eyes she focused herself and searched the area for anyone else who was nearby. She sensed a few of her shinobi partners not far from here but they were heading to the training grounds for early training. But other than those guys there wasn’t many people up and about at this time of day.
Opening her eyes she tunred her attention to the gate. ”Alright, our target had left the village just two days ago and he had stolen an important scroll when he left. Our mission today is to track him down and get that scroll back. It would be best if we got him alive but if he resists too much and has the scroll on him we are allowed to use brutal force even if it means death,” explained Ryoko as she turned her eyes to the girl to see what she would say. Once she had responded to Ryoko Ryoko turned back to the gate and started to walk. She knew the criminal at hand was only a chuunin and what she had read up on them he weren’t the fastest of shinobis. It would be easy for Ryoko to catch up with him and capture him but Iku was not even close to being as fast as Ryoko who had an A rank shuunshin.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true]MAYBE IT'S A DREAM, MAYBE NOTHING ELSE IS REAL Iku smiled brightly when Ryoko returned her greeting. So far, so good. Usually, the genin had a bit of a... problem with authority figures, and for her, it was strange to get a polite greeting and a smile from a jonin, even if they'd just met. Thankfully, Ryoko either hadn't heard about any of her less savory exploits, or she was deciding to look past them for the sake of the mission.
She listened intently as the woman explained more about what they had to do, and by the end of the short briefing, the girl was a little nervous. Did genin usually get sent out on these kinds of missions? She didn't think so... And the guy they were chasing was a chunin, right? So, even if he was the weakest chunin that ever existed, he was probably going to be stronger than Iku, who'd only been a genin for maybe a year, and wasn't anywhere near a chunin level of power.
Actually, she probably wouldn't have to worry about combat; it was unlikely that she'd even get the opportunity to engage the guy with a jonin around. You didn't become a jonin by sucking at everything, after all. So then... what would she do? Hold the scroll while Ryoko kicked ass? Didn't sound like much fun, but if that was what she was supposed to do, she guessed she'd have to do it.
She followed after the strawberry blonde jonin, not voicing any of her thoughts. This wasn't a time for talking, after all. When you talked, you traveled slower, because you were concentrating more on the conversation than anything else. And time was of the essence here; the guy had escaped two days ago, so they were really going to have to hurry to catch up to him. and it wouldn't mean a thing if i told you how i feel WORDS: 312. Sensing the other wouldn’t say anything Ryoko gestured for her to fallow after her. Ryoko started off at a brisk jog and slowly sped her pace up. Ryoko would only go a little more than a quarter of her speed for the girl’s sake. Her ¼ speed was still pretty fast and Ryoko hoped the young girl will be able to keep up with her. The two would head west for almost 20 minutes before Ryoko would come to a sliding hault. Closing her eyes she let herself focus on the area around her. She was searching for that chuunin’s chakra signature. After a good few minutes she sensed nothing but animals. ”He’s not here let’s keep going!” called Ryoko as she started off again doing the same thing as she did before starting out at a brisk job before speeding up to her traditional speed.
Ryoko would repeat the running 20 minutes and stopping three more times before she finally got his chakra signature. Ryoko found him just north of where they were and he was moving at a brisk walk. Ryoko assumed he was probably using a hengai jutsu which was the reason no one had noticed him. But Ryoko had an incredible sensing ability that she didn’t need her sight to find him. ”He’s heading north bound. If I am correct he is probably heading to the local fishing town to catch a boat to the main land. We much capture him before he leaves. If he miss him we will have to go back and get permission to leave the Land of water,” explained Ryoko as she looked over at her younger teammate. Not caring if she answered or not Ryoko started at a run a bit faster than before because she was focued on her target. If Ryoko needed to she would boost her speed up and catch him with ease but she didn’t want to leave the other in the dust.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true]MAYBE IT'S A DREAM, MAYBE NOTHING ELSE IS REAL Iku felt pretty useless so far on this mission, and she had a feeling it wasn't going to get any better any time soon. Ryoko apparently had some sort of neat sensor ability that she could use to find this guy, and so they didn't even have to search manually. It's not like she really wanted to get all dirty and stuff by having to actually search, but it would have been doing something at least. Right now she was just kind of standing there like a useless lump waiting for the jonin to figure out whether the guy was here or not.
They repeated the process a bunch more times, and to be honest, Iku was getting kind of fed up. But of course, she didn't say a word about it to the woman. Ryoko was focused and intent, and the genin didn't want to mess up her concentration by being a whiny little bitch. Which she was, really, but it wouldn't be professional in the slightest and it would probably lead to the jonin putting something bad about her in the mission report, and that absolutely could not happen. Iku had a mission record free of any major flaws, somehow, and she really didn't want that messed up. For all that it seemed she was nothing more than an airhead playing at being a shinobi, she really did take this job seriously, and she'd be crushed if she ended up with a bad record or being left out of a promotion or something.
She had been easily keeping up with Ryoko when the woman wasn't going too fast; Iku was pretty speedy for a genin, and the fact that she was actually wearing proper clothing for once in her life helped quite a bit. But when the jonin's speed picked up more and more, Iku realized she was probably going to fall behind. And if that happened, she'd would probably end up slowing down enough to let her catch up, and then the guy would get away, and that would suck. "Ryoko-sensei, if you can catch the guy, go get him. Don't let him get away because I'm too slow to keep up." It pained her to admit that she was slow, even compared to a jonin with tens of years of training, but hey, it was true. and it wouldn't mean a thing if i told you how i feel WORDS: 404. ”Ok Iku-chan if you wait here I will be back in probably an hour. If I use my full speed I should be able to catch up with him. I’m sorry that this mission wasn’t what you expected to be. You sensei thought it would be a good eye opener for you since most genin never do C ranked missions. I’ll be back as soon as I can,” called Ryoko as she turned and in a poof of smoke she was gone. It didn’t take Ryoko long to pin point this missing chuunin. He was heading to the docks to find a boat that was leaving but Ryoko was going to make sure he wasn’t going anywhere. Using a large amount of speed she pushed herself forward and reached out and grabbed the missing Kiri ninja by the collar of his shirt and pulled him back. With her strength she was able to pull him into the ground causing him to lose his breath.
”What made you think you were getting away?” smirked Ryoko as she placed a foot on his ribs. Tilting her head to the side she saw the fear in his eyes. Most low ranking shinobis did fear her if they were in this position. Ryoko was a shinobi you did not battle in close range. If Ryoko got in striking range of you, you will probably end up with a few broken bones. When Ryoko was serious she hits you as if you were a solid rock. The Chuunin whimpered under Ryoko as she pressed down with her foot on his chest. ”Where is that scroll you stole buddy?” asked Ryoko as she tilted her head to the side. Wincing slightly as Ryoko pushed down harder the chuunin pointed to his pocket on his vest. Ryoko reached down opened it and pulled out the scroll.
”That wasn’t hard was it,” smiled Ryoko as she pulled her foot off the other’s chest who gave a large sigh. Before the other could think Ryoko quickly knocked him out with a hard punch to the head. Once he was knocked out Ryoko placed the scroll in her shuriken pouch and through the runaway over her shoulder. She would take her time walking back to Iku wanting to make it look like it was a bit of a challenge for her.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true]MAYBE IT'S A DREAM, MAYBE NOTHING ELSE IS REAL Oh man, this was going to be so boring. To think, she had thought this would be some great and exciting thing, and she'd maybe get to kick some ass and have something to brag about when it was all said and done. "Hey, it's fine. It's more important for you to catch the guy than keep me entertained. The mission comes first, after all." That was one lesson she'd learned - very nearly the hard way - and never planned on forgetting. Grinning, she watched as the woman disappeared from her sight, leaving one very bored genin in her wake.
The smart thing to do would be to simply wait, or maybe practice that stupid tree climbing thing that she still couldn't get the hang of. Y'know, try to do something productive with the hour or so of time she had before Ryoko dragged that chunin's sorry ass back here with the scroll they were supposed to get.
But since when had Iku ever done the smart thing? She was one of those people that always had to be doing something, and that something most definitely was not going to be that stupid tree exercise that she completely and utterly failed at every time she tried to do it. Oh, no. It was something that her sister would have disapproved of. It was something her sensei would have probably yelled at her for. But thinking of them wasn't really going to stop her from doing it, of course.
A cute woodland creature had caught the genin's eye, and, of course, Iku just had to chase it. She brought her staff along with her - she had spent way too much money on the damn thing to leave it sitting by a tree where anyone could walk by and pick it up - and ended up scaring the creature off shortly into her chase because she'd smacked the long length of wood into a tree and made a really loud noise.
Unfortunately, the woodland creatures were not the only ones that heard the sound. And the person that heard and came to investigate was not exactly friendly.
Iku had enough time to swear at him and swing her staff before he snatched it out of her hand and knocked her out with it. and it wouldn't mean a thing if i told you how i feel WORDS: 389.
