[atrb=border,0,true]everything you've done is killing everyone a little smile on a homicidal bastard It was precisely eight o'clock in the morning when Masumi arrived at the Tsuchikage's building to meet her teammate and client for this mission. Once again, she was unexcited and perhaps a little irritated due to what it entailed: an escort, and to a different country, no less. A spoiled princess of a teenager, daughter to the Mud Country's aging daimyo - and most assuredly a pain in the ass - awaited her there. Ichigo Asami was eighteen years old; she had black hair, much like the chunin's, that hung down to her waist and pale blue eyes. Skin white as snow, a haughty expression laid across her pointed face, and wearing a heavy dress that brushed the earth beneath her feet... yes, she could already tell that this wasn't going to be a pleasant trip. She had not met the girl before now, but she had heard from others that she was a real handful - expected everything to be handed to her, wanted to be treated like a goddess when she deserved plebeian treatment, snobbish, haughty, and a whole number of other things that already grated on the chunin's nerves.
As for the genin that was to accompany her - because she really needed help with something this simple - well, she wasn't much better. Hoshi Shoshi was an utterly obnoxious fourteen year old that dressed inappropriately and didn't seem to have any respect for her betters. Despite this, she was supposed to be fairly intelligent, something Masumi would only believe if she saw it. Hopefully the two would off each other and thus remedy the problem of her being in the company of two idiots she could not stand.
Asami scowled when Masumi approached. "Who are you? What, do you want my autograph or something? Please, I have better things to do than humor children."
The chunin was unfazed. "If you value your spoiled life, I suggest you refrain from referring to your bodyguard as a child and pathetically attempting to demean me." she responded. "You should show respect for someone who would lay their life on the line to save yours." Not that she would do so willingly - if not for the paycheck she would receive after the brat was back in her father's home, Masumi would likely have ended up putting a kunai through Asami's heart.
"Really? You, as my escort? Is that all my daddy's money could pay for, a little girl trying to play ninja?" Asami rolled her eyes. "Now, go on and play, and send a real ninja to protect me."
"Regardless of my feelings - or yours - about this assignment, we are stuck with each other until I return you to your home." Masumi told her, her usual monotone in full effect. [color=]"We can leave as soon as my partner arrives. And if I may make another suggestion... Do refrain from talking to me. It is unpleasant to be on my bad side, and that is the quickest way to get there."
Where was Shoshi at? Masumi narrowed her eyes; she could not stand people who had no regard for punctuality. The genin was fifteen minutes late already, and she was tempted to just leave without her. another failure is a guaranteed disaster |

[atrb=border,0,true]everything you've done is killing everyone a little smile on a homicidal bastard Approximately fifteen minutes had passed since Masumi's arrival, and there was still no sign of the genin. This will most definitely warrant a mention in my report. Such tardiness is unjustifiable. The most recent crop of genin all seem to share this deplorable habit... perhaps this is a failing of the academy? However, this problem did not affect her greatly enough for her to put in the effort to discover its cause or solution. After all, the lateness of a few genin had little importance to her in the grand scheme of things.
"So... why are we still here?" Asami demanded, eyes narrowing. "I have better things to do than stand around here all day."
"Believe me, I understand your... plight. However, I am not the only shinobi assigned for your protection on your trip home. The other is... incredibly late." Masumi's apathetic expression soured. "I apologize for the wait, despite not having caused the problem. Any shinobi under the Lord Tsuchikage should know to behave better than this." Tardiness and unprofessional behavior reflected badly on the country as a whole, and thus affected the reputation of the honored Yondaime, which was inexcusable. The chunin held little real respect for most people, but he was the exception to the rule due to his strength, standing, and achievements. It would not be too far off the mark to say that Masumi aspired to be more like him in those respects... although she could hardly say the same for his personality. But that was something to ponder at a different time.
"Hmmph. Doesn't anyone know that you can't keep a lady waiting?!" Asami snapped, folding her arms over her ample chest. "This girl is going to be in so much trouble."
Perhaps it is true that one cannot keep a lady waiting, but I doubt that applies to you. "It is not your place to scold her - nor is it truly mine. But she will get reprimanded by the proper authorities for it."
It was the better part of an hour later before Shoshi arrived. "You are late. Do not make a habit of it." she spoke before the genin got a word in. What the brunette said actually shocked the usually unflappable teen, though she didn't show it. "You are lucky that I am not in charge.. something like that would have severe repercussions." If she had her way, it still might. Masumi had never heard of a shinobi simply forgetting they had a mission before - the thought of it blew her mind. another failure is a guaranteed disaster |

[atrb=border,0,true]everything you've done is killing everyone a little smile on a homicidal bastard Masumi twitched. They had been traveling for an hour, and Asami had not shut up the entire time. First she was ranting about the lateness of the genin they had left behind, then it was complaining about how it was too hot and she was going to sweat, then it was how she hated rocks. Then she actually tripped over one and Masumi barely caught her before she fell flat on her face. And did she receive thanks for it? Of course not. If not for the fact that Asami's father was paying her very well for this little escapade, Masumi would kill the girl and dump her body in the middle of nowhere.
After that, of course, the woman demanded a break because she was too delicate to walk so far without resting sometimes. So Masumi leaned against a lone tree and sipped some water while her client spread out a blanket, sat down on it, and proceeded to just lay there and bask in the sun despite claiming that it was too hot outside to do anything.
"If you would like to get back to your home before nightfall, we need to continue walking." Masumi told her, barely refraining from snapping at the spoiled princess of a woman. Oh, how she hated these missions. Now she was beginning to regret leaving the genin behind; she and Asami could have been obnoxious at each other and she wouldn't have had to pay any attention to either of them.
"Ugh, five more minutes, stupid shinobi. You can't tell a lady what to do!" Asami responded petulantly, folding her arms over her chest and huffing haughtily.
Masumi raised an eyebrow. "Watch me." She pulled Asami up, threw the blanket into the girl's arms, and proceeded to practically drag her down the path. This was going to be a long day. another failure is a guaranteed disaster |

[atrb=border,0,true]everything you've done is killing everyone a little smile on a homicidal bastard It was around three in the afternoon when they had to stop again because Asami was hungry and it was entirely impossible for the woman to eat a granola bar or something while they walked. That shouldn't have surprised her; she doubted the girl had enough functioning brain cells to do more than walk and talk, and it probably took all of them to do both at the same time. So she waited around while Asami spread out her blanket again and pulled some dried fruit and water out of her bag.
It ended up being a longer process than one would think; Asami hated about half the package of fruit and had to pick every piece out, separate them into categories, and then eat the ones she liked. She just dumped what she didn't like onto the ground. And then she was ready to walk again, but not for very long, of course.
Masumi did not accommodate her every time she asked for a break, however. She allowed the girl enough downtime that she wasn't constantly whining, but she wanted to be rid of her by nightfall, and that simply wouldn't happen if they stopped every half an hour. They were already a little behind schedule, and so the chunin was pushing the civilian to go as fast as she could - but of course, that only made her complain even more.
Was it bad that Masumi contemplated shoving her off a cliff? Well, probably. Most people didn't want to murder everyone that annoyed them... However, Masumi was part of the minority that did. But, alas, then she would fail the mission and wouldn't get paid. And that would be a real tragedy.
"When are we going to get home?" Asami whined.
"Soon." But not soon enough. another failure is a guaranteed disaster |

[atrb=border,0,true]everything you've done is killing everyone a little smile on a homicidal bastard Night was approaching quickly, and Masumi learned another thing about her client: Asami, despite being an adult, was still afraid of the dark. She was muttering about how it was stupid that night had to exist and why couldn't the sun always be visible in the sky. The chunin wanted to smack her, because the darker it got, the clingier the girl got. By the time the sun had sunk completely below the horizon, Asami was clinging to her arm and demanding that Masumi move faster.
The chunin obliged, if only so she could deposit the woman at her home faster and thus get her to stop clinging. Masumi hated being touched by people at all, even little things like a pat on the shoulder or someone accidentally brushing against her. When this woman, who was not only taller but heavier than the teen, was clinging to practically half of her body, well, it was driving her insane.
Finally, they spotted the luxuriant mansion belonging to the daimyo of Mud Country. Asami squealed with glee and, thankfully, let go of the chunin. Masumi escorted the girl to the door, had a short word with the daimyo and his wife, and then left, free at last.
The walk back to Iwagakure didn't take anywhere near as long, even though Masumi was hardly walking any faster. She wanted to enjoy the night air, the solitude she now had, and a leisurely walk home was just the way to do that. Masumi would write her mission report the next morning, she decided, because for once, the girl thought she was tired enough to get at least a few hours of sleep.
She arrived home sometime after midnight, didn't stop to speak to the sleepy gate guards, and headed straight home. She didn't even bother turning on any of the lights in her apartment, just headed straight for her bed. Today had been a long day indeed. another failure is a guaranteed disaster |
