It would inform the chuunin that she was to be prepared for possible combat and to arrive at the mountain training ground location known as training grounds 57 in approximately one hour, or more precisely, noon. Waiting for her at the entry gate would be a bit of a surprise for the chuunin. Instead of the usual assistant to give her a mission, waiting for her would be the Tsuchikage himself. For the occasion the man had removed his baggy attire. Instead he donned mesh armor on both his arms and legs that trailed down to his wrists and ankles. Over this he wore a more form fitting earthen hued flak jacket with a black lapel hanging over his right leg and loose yet fitting trousers. He still chose to go bare footed, but that was simply because he couldn't stand donning foot wear.
He stood with his arms folded across his chest as he leaned against the wall of the gates that ran the perimeter of training ground 57. His crimson gaze was trained on the path before him the trailed back toward the village watching it closely for anything that might possibly resemble the form of the chuunin he had summoned here today. With him, waiting impatiently, were three genin each of varying clans. A young girl by the name Tsubasa, Takakana sat leaned against the gate as she stared to the heavens with her own equally crimson gaze. Long ivory tresses fell over her slender shoulders. A young boy, however Takakana's senior, named Yamamoto, Moriyama paced about before the gate with his arms folded across his strong robust, for his age, chest. His fiery tresses flew about his head in every which direction with his bangs being long enough to frame his face and tresses in the back being long enough to reach his shoulders. Then there was the last boy, Moto, Tori. He was a silent one. He wandered around a bit and made little to no noise unlike the constant clamor of the other two. Every now and then he would stop and brush his ebony tresses from his azure sights. His tresses, tied back into a low pony tail, were long enough to reach the small of his back. His bangs were equally as long and remained loosely tied with the rest of his hair.
The Tsuchikage watched over these three genin just as he always did. While he made sure to pay attention to any animals that may attempt to slither out of the training grounds directly behind him, most of his attention was still trained on the path in front of him. It was nearing noon, perhaps ten minutes away at this point, and Hiryuu was beginning to hope that she would not arrive late despite how sudden the summons had been. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]just like your empty words just like the chemical just like the disease that stains your lips tonight if it's no one's fault there's just no one to blame and nothing to say this time it's no one's fault so there's nothing to save and no one to hate if i say i want you so bad it doesn't matter don't believe me you're just the disease that was in my life you're dead inside of me - - - So far, her day had been spent training. She was not working on her speed, nor her ninjutsu or taijutsu - nothing that had the potential to exhaust her before the afternoon even arrived. It pained her to admit that her skills were not where she thought they should be, but she had decided to set aside a full week to spend on training because of that, with a strict schedule - training of some sort from dawn till noon, D-Rank missions (though she hated those more than anything) from noon until four, as many as she could get done, and then more training from four until ten at night. The chunin had thought it prudent to request that she refrain from taking part in missions of higher ranks while she was putting the majority of her effort and energy into training - and besides, even C-Rank missions would disrupt her schedule. So she had sucked up her pride and relegated herself to a role most often held by rookie genin.
Today, she was studying fuuinjutsu, and had been poring through books and drawing seals on paper - and her floors - all morning long. She seemed to be making some sort of progress in figuring out how the mechanics of some of the more complicated seals functioned. All in all, it had been a very productive and enlightening morning so far. Around ten thirty in the morning, the chunin took a break for tea and a light meal - rather early, but that allowed her stomach to settle before she began working, which she made sure of even on something as mundane as D-Rank missions. She had just finished washing her dishes when she heard the piecing cry of a carrier hawk - how intriguing. It wasn't every day that she received a message by hawk.
Be prepared for possible combat, arrive at training ground fifty-seven promptly at noon. That was the gist of the message, and Masumi was quite curious to figure out what was going on here. She hurriedly gathered together her tools, preparing like she was about to set out on a dangerous mission, and then she was out the door and heading towards her destination. To be honest, she wasn't expecting anything grand - perhaps she was being pitted against some chunin or jonin in a training match, or something like that. It couldn't be anything that was all that important, right?
It was exactly noon when Masumi arrived and saw, to her surprise, the grand Yondaime himself. "To what do I owe this honor, Tsuchikage-sama?" she murmured, giving him a polite bow. Her attention turned to the three genin momentarily, but she was more concerned with the reason that Saito Hiryuu himself had decided to speak with her in person. words: 466 tags: hiryuu notes: - - - lyrics: dark that follows by evans blue credit: akemi of btn |

With the occasional breeze that danced past the small group of four, soon to be five, his ebony tresses seemed to dance along with its partner. As long moments passed the group soon feel into an uneasy silence. All but one of the genin had, at this point, fallen into boredom and resolved it by staring at the Tsuchikage. Meanwhile the Tsuchikage remained there, motionless, almost as though he were a wild cat lying in wait for its prey to lower its guard. Then the moments passed and finally he moved.
He opened his eyes as he knew the clock struck noon. Almost as if on cue, he could see the familiar figure of the chuunin that he had summoned here today. He watched her as she descended down the path towards the large gates that loomed between the village and training grounds fifty-seven. By the time she had fully approached the group, all three of the genin were eyeing her with curiosity. They were wondering just what she was doing here at this location, not only that but what they themselves were doing here. Hiryuu had left them just as much in the dark as her.
As she addressed him he held up a hand as if to stop all pardons and politeness right there, then with the flick of his wrist, drew and kunai from his pouch and quickly closed the gap between her and himself getting close to her and holding the kunai at her throat as if he were going to kill her then and there. "From now on I am your enemy. Do not address me as Tsuchikage but rather your target." The genin were all baffled as to their leader's actions, however before any of them could react the Tsuchikage leaped back and high into the air landing upon the gate. "You have until dusk to find and defeat me," he addressed the group as a whole. Then with that, he vanished beyond the gate into the heavily forested and highly dangerous training grounds beyond. Having been in this area himself hundreds of times before, Hiryuu knew well he could survive in this forest until the allotted time, however he could only worry about the genin he had chosen the throw into this frey. Of course they were all exceptional, possible candidates for chuunin, and of course only this little 'test' could really tell Hiryuu whether or not any of them were up for the task.
Still shocked by what just happened, two of the genin seemed to be frozen in their places, however Takakana by this point stood and approached Masumi. "He isn't really our enemy, is he?" She seemed to be looking for insight as to what the heck just happened. The Tsuchikage couldn't have really gone rogue on them, could he have? If so, should they go get help? Takakana didn't know what to do and the other two genin were too much like statues to be of any help. REMAIN DEFIANT UNTIL THE END, AND WE'LL BRING CHANGE |

Her reaction speed was second to none, after all, and not even something like the Tsuchikage seeming to attack her was enough to startle her into stillness. So this would be a test, it seemed. "Very well." The chunin returned her kunai to the equipment pouch she wore, and turned to survey the three others - genin, she presumed.
"Of course not. This is merely a test - to capture and defeat him, we need to think like he is an enemy, and thus treat him as one." Masumi replied. She had stopped herself from adding a scathing remark about how if the Tsuchikage had gone rogue, he would have just flew the village with everything valuable, instead of bringing four shinobi to a dangerous training ground - really, if one thought about it for more than a second, it was easy to come to the correct conclusion. And if the test happened to be what she thought it might... "Hm. We've the proper number for a squad."
She thought about what she knew of the Tsuchikage's abilities - surprisingly, not very much. He had amazing sensory skills, she knew, that was par for the course with the Saito Clan - and probably impressive ninjutsu skills as well. His speed... Not so much, considering the interaction that had taken place upon her arrival. "The three of you must inform me of your abilities as we move. He can't be allowed much of a head start. Come on." She set off into the training ground, beckoning for the genin to follow.
Masumi was actually quite excited - it wasn't often that she got a good fight, and Hiryuu was sure to be just that. However, she wouldn't let her excitement compel her into rushing forth without constructing a plan. "Do any of you possess a sensory ability? Or do you have any skill with traps?" She would definitely be summoning some foxes to aid in this endeavor - though the one fox that would prove most useful, Akasha, was outside the realm of possibility at the moment. The summon was of a higher tier than anything she had the capability to call on, and the one time she had attempted it, she had been quite taxed and received no result. Hm. This could be quite the problem. words: 417 tags: hiryuu notes: - - - lyrics: dark that follows by evans blue credit: akemi of btn |

He had already had a destination in mind for where he wanted to go, all that mattered now was getting to the mother tree without getting eaten alive first.
Falling down towards the ground, Hiryuu grappled his arms around a tree branch and used it to swin himself upwards again performing a flip in the air as he did so. Once he was right side up again, he landed for a moment on a large tree branch before kicking off again using enough force to leave a sizable mark on the branch, purposely leaving a clue behind for his pursuers. After all, he didn't want it to be impossible for them to find him, just difficult.
Takakana nodded her head the expression on her face becoming much more serious. "Right, so then we need to take him down just like any enemy." Her crimson gaze shifted over towards the forest a small look of worry on her face, "Hiryuu-nii won't be an easy opponent to win over. Which means we need to exploit his weaknesses..." As she noticed Masumi move on ahead she jumped to and dragged the other two genin with her into the forested training grounds.
"Oi Takakana, you certain we can take down your cousin," ask Moriyama as he pulled his hand away from her grip and proceeded to follow of his own accord. Takakana laughed weakly at this, "Actually I have no clue, but if we work together we can at least manage to catch him. At least that's what I hope, hehe. Hiryuu-nii out classes me so bad, I'm actually not that sure." Looking over her shoulder a moment she casted a glance to Tori whom continued to follow silently with one hand on the hilt of his katana as he readied himself to jump into action at any given moment. "There are four of us and one of him. One of us is a chuunin, one is a genjutsu and clay user, one is a swordsman, and one specializes in ninjutsu. We're certain to be able to at least pull something off, right?" By her voice Takakana absolutely did not sound confident that they would succeed, but she was at least trying to think of something.
Moriyama, meanwhile, looked to Masumi, "Yeah, Takakana is good with traps. Her clay abilities make for natural traps and plus she can use genjutsu. I'm really only good for attack straight on and Tori, well he slices and dices."REMAIN DEFIANT UNTIL THE END, AND WE'LL BRING CHANGE |

Masumi turned to the girl, who looked to be the youngest of the bunch. "And what do you know of his weaknesses?" This was a puzzle to the chunin - for all she held pride in her extensive knowledge, her information on her own leader was sorely lacking. Mostly because she had never imagined that she would ever face him as an enemy - quite an oversight; as a shinobi one should always expect the unexpected.
"I know of his prowess with sensory abilities and ninjutsu - what about taijutsu and genjutsu?" Masumi was scanning the area around the group, looking out for clues the Kage might have left as well as any enemies they could possibly be facing. She was beginning to put together outlines of several plans, many of which would be discarded before something really took shape. He outclassed her in ninjutsu - and she didn't have very many that would prove helpful in a fight against a Kage anyway, being that most of the techniques she knew were basic supplementary ones. Genjutsu wasn't at all her art - but her kitsune were masters of it. All it would take was one glance at the tails, and he would be captured - if his genjutsu skill was anything like hers, anyway - that is, nonexistent. And, though it would be dangerous, if his taijutsu wasn't up to par, she would be able to directly confront him in close quarters combat.
"He is the most powerful shinobi in Iwagakure for a reason. It would be unwise to underestimate him." Masumi interjected. "However, I believe we have a decent chance of success. I do not mean to sound egotistical - but I am more powerful than some of the village's jonin... And you three cannot simply be average genin. I don't think he would risk your lives if he didn't think you had a good chance of survival in this training ground." Simple logic dictated that Hiryuu wouldn't needlessly risk the lives of young shinobi for a mere test - he did seem to care about his people.
"The three of you have varied abilities, that's good. As an overview - my specialty is speed, I'm quite good with ninjutsu although I generally only use supplementary techniques, my taijutsu is slightly above average, and I can summon a large variety of powerful kitsune, all of which are accomplished in the use of genjutsu." She mentioned only skills that would be of use in the test - no need to mention her fuuinjutsu studies, which she couldn't put to the test here, or her lack of genjutsu ability.
"We will be able to trick our enemy into a trap, if we do it correctly." Masumi considered this for a moment. "He will not walk straight into one because of the sensory abilities - but if we set up traps in a manner that will corral him into one section of the training ground, it would be possible to engage him. Tell me more of these clay abilities and how they function."
"You three stay on the ground - look for any marks he might have made. I'll be right above you in the trees." The chunin was quick to ascend the nearest tree - an aerial view was always helpful. Even though she was so focused on the ground and the genin below her, it was easy to see the mark the man had left. So he had continued on in this direction - for a while, at least. words: 586 tags: hiryuu notes: - - - lyrics: dark that follows by evans blue credit: akemi of btn |

However they are malleable, so say i throw a clay shuriken and manage to hit his leg or something, it wouldn't cut him but rather splatter on impact and attach to him." Takakana quickly pulled a kunai out of her pouch, "As such Tsubasa are often called in for tasks such as subduing beasts." She threw the kunai nailing a giant serpent in its weak spot and felling it.
Moriyama then took this moment to speak, "That's all great and everything, but how will that help us capture someone like Lord Tsuchikage whom likely knows all of this?"
Takakana smirked, "Because every shinobi has a weakness and Hiryuu-nii's weakness is his fatal flaw." She slashed at a smaller snake that had crept up behind Moriyama, "Think about it, he has a strong sixth sense, what else does that make him vulnerable to?" Moriyama remained silent for a while and when he didn't respond Takakana sighed, "Illusions." Takakana jumped when she heard something go splat right behind her. When she turned on the ball of her foot the sight of what was so close to her disgusted her. Tori had drawn his katana and sliced right through a poisonous centipede's dead pinning it to a tree and killing it. He then proceeded to remove his katana and clean off any blood and poison. "Uhhh, thanks Tori." The boy nodded his head and moved onward into the forest. It would not take Takakana and Moriyama long to follow.
Meanwhile, deeper in the forest Hiryuu continued to bound from tree to tree. As he got farther into the forest he started to make more and more signs of passage that would likely throw the team tracking him off of his trail if they were not careful. Stopping for a moment as he landed on a rather large branch high up in the tree tops he placed his hand on the trunk as he surveyed the area. "I don't want to make the task too difficult for them, which is why I've determined that I'm going to hold back to perhaps jounin maybe chuunin level on my part, but...." He looked down towards the forest floor as he watched a large lizard crawl among the brush, "I just hope this isn't too much for the genin. A lot of dangerous animals live here." Focusing his chakra now to his third eye Hiryuu opened his sixth sense and searched back to the forest entrance to see how close they might be to his trail. Well well, seems like they were on the right path.

After you mold it, does the clay retain a chakra signature, or is it undetectable by sensors?" Whether it was or it wasn't, Masumi was sure she could find a use for it. If Hiryuu would be able to sense anything made of the clay, they could set up traps with it in order to corral him into a location of their choosing, which would provide an advantage - if he fell for it, anyway, which she doubted. Nor did she think he would pretend to fall for it for the sake of making the test passable. However, it was worth a try, because you could never predict a person's actions in their entirety. And if he couldn't sense it, well, still traps - traps that were actually meant to catch someone.
"If we can manage to corner him somewhere, it would be fairly simple to catch him in a genjutsu, I believe. To get caught in kitsune's genjutsu, one must only look at their tails... when you summon one right in someone's face, I imagine it would be difficult to avoid looking at the tails." And surely having three eyes would make it even more difficult. "And even if we don't manage to catch him in a genjutsu, it will be possible to defeat him. It is a slight chance, but a chance nonetheless."
Logically, he wouldn't be going all out - no one else in Iwa could ever hope to beat him if he did. For a test with a chunin and three genin? He would probably scale his power back to that of an average jonin, which Masumi knew she could match. The genin... they were superfluous, but she would put them to use anyway. No use in letting them go to waste - though it would be quite a pain if she had to rescue them from the forest's creatures. They did seem to be handling themselves alright for now, though, so it hopefully wouldn't come to that. words: 338 tags: hiryuu notes: i lack muse for this specific thread ffs x.x lyrics: dark that follows by evans blue credit: akemi of btn |
