He appeared to know what he was doing, despite his many... shortcomings, and that was good enough for her. So long as he wasn't going to be stupid about this, he could remain in charge. If the situation changed, she would remove him from his authority, most likely through sheer force of will - when she knew she was right about something, she could not be dissuaded.
She knew what technique he had used and executed it as well, moving silently and invisibly to a spot behind her target. As soon as she saw the other man go down, she would make her move. The bandit had just enough time to see his partner begin to fall, and then she delivered the blow. He collapsed to the ground in a heap next to the other.
Masumi surveyed the area around the camp, looking for signs of any other bandits. If none were around, and they kept up their techniques, it might be possible to slip into the shacks unnoticed. They were so small that there couldn't be a large number of the criminals inside, and if they each took one they could clear them easily, and surely come upon the location of the 'Kingdom Hearts.' It would then be a simple matter to slip back out, reactivate the simple technique, and retreat. After all, their mission was to retrieve the stolen goods, not necessarily to exterminate the bandits.
However, she wasn't sure whether Taichi would want to try that or continue their surveillance. It would be a simple matter to ask him - but she would follow his lead on this, and thus she waited, to see whether he wanted her opinion again or not. i've come to burn your kingdom down. |

Taichi watched as the second bandit fell from the Chunin's attack. Without having to voice the plan she had both concealed herself and taken out the target, perhaps this mission would be easier than first thought. With no others in the immediate vicinity the Jounin released the technique and began to think of the duo's next move. They could continue skulking around but that would only prove useful if they were all paired in groups of two's; any more than that at they would be forced to fight out right, and if that was the case then they might as well bust in the two houses and start swinging. Normally, that would spell trouble and considering that they still didn't know just how many bandits there were or if they were all even in the 2 shacks it still did. Perhaps Masumi had some input on the situation.
"I doubt they'll all be so conveniently placed for us to take out. Any suggestions?" He asked, both of his options at the ready but wondering if they would be able to hit some kind of common ground. After all, there were only two options at this point and either would probably prove successful considering the level of enemy. Going in guns blazing would certainly make things go a hell of a lot faster and the sooner they finished with this the sooner they could start on the day's journey back to Iwa. On the other hand, taking the stealth route would keep them here longer but provide less resistance when they inevitably had to enter the two shacks. While that may have been better from a statistical stand point Taichi couldn't help but shake the itch to fight and would have been a bit upset if every person they encountered got taken out the silent way.
Perhaps the Chunin would feel the same way, if she felt anything at all, or at the very least had the same urge to return to the village as quickly as possible. Or she would want to continue the stealth route which seemed to be a perfect comparison to her personality.

It looked like he was already growing a little antsy due to taking the stealthy approach - he seemed like the type to just kick down doors and start fighting, stealth be damned. That was the exact opposite of the course she tended to take, a cautious approach that put stealth and safety over a swift and brutal extermination. Of course, that didn't necessarily mean she was always opposed to the latter method of execution - it was just that she would prefer to take the path that gave her the best chance of surviving the mission. Even if it seemed simple on the surface, there could always be a nasty surprise laying in wait, and it was important to prepare for that.
"...it is not the path that I would usually take, but I suggest we split up and search the shacks." Masumi told him. "It is unlikely that anything lies within that either of us cannot handle, and there is not enough space within the buildings to hold a number of bandits that would prove to be insurmountable." A hint of a smile crossed her face momentarily before fading again. "While we do run the risk of hitting trouble with this method, I do not believe further use of stealth would be a necessary or recommended course of action." He was sure to be fond of that, and while she certainly wasn't jumping at the bit to get into a fight, the chunin would admit that she wanted this to be over and done with.
"After any guards have been removed, it will then be a simple matter to search the houses and find these 'Kingdom Hearts.' If our presence attracts more bandits that attempt to stop us on the way out, we conceal the stones and take them out." After a slight pause, in which Masumi cast a glance at him as if trying to figure out whether her next remark would irritate him, she spoke again. "..in the event that it would be necessary for one of us to flee with the stones, it would be me. I am faster and I don't draw as much notice as you would, which would allow me to avoid pursuit easier." i've come to burn your kingdom down. |

So she had caught on to his way of thinking, at least in this instance, and wanted to go for the full frontal assault. Perhaps she wasn't too bad after all. Never the less there was an issue as there were three guards standing watch outside of the shacks that needed to be dealt with first. It would be hard pressed to take them all out before one got the chance to signal others, even if the duo were camouflaged. An interesting predicament that needed to be taken care of before they could go guns blazing into the shacks. Then again, bringing the entire bandit group outside would make things go a lot quicker and allow ample room to move about compared to the inside of a shack. Never the less it would have been ridiculous to completely scrap the Chunin's plan after he had asked for her advice.
"Very well. Since there are three guarding the shacks I'll leave two of them to your disposal." Was he being lazy? A little bit, but at the same time it was a test of both her skill and mental capacity. Masumi had already shown on a couple of occasions that she was able to work under pressure so one ore opportunity wouldn't hurt, right? Though she probably didn't see it this way, it would go a long way in possibly advancing her shinobi career. Her next statement caused a single brow to raise on the face of the Jounin. It was a contingency plan for if shit hit the fan, always needed, but was her remark of being faster a shot at his short legs? Surely the girl couldn't have picked a worse time to bring his height into question. Normally Taichi would have exploded, but given the situation he would repress it for the time being, but rest assured that she would be hearing of it on the return to Iwa.
"Fair enough, let's hope it doesn't get to that point." With that Taichi began moving onwards towards the shacks and eventually hit a slope that brought them level to the encampments and the three guards. The distance was enough that they would not be seen but close enough to launch a successful surprise attack. It had finally arrived, the time to let loose, at least in some fashion, and come one step closer to finishing this mission. The Chunin would have the lead on this part as she had to deal with two bandits to the Jounin's one, though Taichi would be ready to help should the task prove too much for the girl. "After you." He stated with a hushed tone awaiting Masumi's movements.

Perhaps it was supposed to be a test, like he expected her to prove herself to him - a notion she scoffed at. However, she would not ask him to take another of the guards and leave her with just one; not only was that entirely pointless, but even if she would have had trouble with two guards, her nature simply would not have allowed her to voice any weakness.
She could tell that her remark had, indeed, irritated him, which she had not intended. It was a simple statement of facts and nothing more; why he couldn't see past his temper was a mystery to her. Oh well. Perhaps he would use up his anger fighting. Regardless, it was not her problem at this moment in time.
While they walked down the slope, Masumi formed a single hand seal to activate her favorite technique. A dark, earthen tone spread across her skin, making it hard as diamond. It would add extra strength to her taijutsu attacks, which would make dispatching the two guards even easier. When he spoke, she disappeared, only to reappear between her two guards an instant later, driving a fist into one's throat - which had likely collapsed his windpipe. The other barely had time to open his mouth - getting part of a shout out - and then he joined his fellow guard on the ground.
Hopefully, Taichi had managed to take down his one guard in the time it took her to dispatch two. Surely he had. With that task completed, they would then split and enter the shacks - unless people had heard the beginning of that guard's shout and came running, a possibility she could not deny. i've come to burn your kingdom down. |

There was silence, good, and it seemed that there were no objections to his plan. Perhaps she had deduced his plan, or maybe she just wanted to get things over with as quickly as possible. Either way Taichi was satisfied with how the mission had progressed so far, though her short remark had not been forgotten. As Masumi moved to take on her targets so did the Jounin, and with speed that a normal bandit would be unable to keep up with he had been able to get in front of his target in mere moments. One well placed punch to the temple laid the man out cold without a sound other than his body hitting the ground. While this was certainly more forward than the stealth they had used earlier Taichi had decided against the flare of using Bakuton on the poor fellow as to not draw unwanted attention; and considering how populated the shacks were there was a chance he was not going to use it at all.
For a few moments he waited in silence to see if their attacks had brought about any other bandits that might have been in ear shot of the sound made from Masumi's target. Luckily, there were no new additions to the fray and they could continue silently. Taichi pointed to himself and the shack furthermost to the left to signify that that would be the one he would search, leaving the Chunin with the one to the right. Now was the time to act quickly and to draw as little attention as possible. Given how early it was there was a chance the remaining bandits were still asleep inside the shacks which would prove both an advantage and disadvantage. They would surely be outnumbered but held the element of surprise.
On second thought, why not thin out some of the herd now and leave the rest in panic? That would surely bring them all outside and prove much more entertaining than skulking around a bunch of sleeping imbeciles. From his pouch Taichi grabbed two kunai wrapped in explosive notes and flung them through the windows of the shack to the left. In a matter of moments they would detonate and send a loud boom through the valley. There was little doubt that at least two people had been taken out and the door quickly flew open to reveal both smoke and gagging bandits, some covered in blood. From his initial count there were five that came out of this shack, meaning that there would be roughly the same number give or take still inside Masumi's. Taichi would wait to see what the Chunin would do as he had limited her options, namely removing the stealth one; though if she wanted to jump back and await the remaining bandits to empty the second shack so she could enter unopposed she was more than welcome.

While it was possible for her to kill simple opponents such as the bandits with her physical strength alone, thanks to the technique, it never hurt to have a little extra assurance in the form of a sharp, pointy object. She was planning on engaging the bandits inside the shack, as she could use the enclosed space to her advantage... but all hope of a stealthy entrance and an indoor fight was lost when Taichi loosed a few explosive tags on his shack and alerted every living being here that there was an attack happening.
Masumi sighed and very nearly swore under her breath, but didn't bother. Well, when in Rome... She affixed some of her own stash of explosive tags - which she hardly ever depleted; they might have been useful at times but she wasn't fond of them - to a few kunai and loosed them at the door to her shack, which had been opened by a near-lethargic bandit. He took the full brunt of the first explosion. That was one down.
The subsequent blast did a little bit of damage to the rest of the men; two of them remained inside, skulking about where they thought she couldn't see them, and the other two rushed her. An idiotic move, for sure. What fool would charge a trained shinobi with nothing to use as a weapon but his own hands? The man, who seemed to be just as awake as the one she'd blown up, died quickly.
The other man, who had been awake enough to come out of the shack properly armed, hesitated for a moment after his fellow died... and that hesitation allowed her to dispatch him easily.
Now, it was time to head inside the shack, exterminate the others, and do a thorough search - simple enough. i've come to burn your kingdom down. |

Taichi nearly cracked a smile seeing the Chunin switch up her tactics and go with the exploding route as well. Even though she was not showing it, there had to be some part of her that enjoyed watching things go boom. Of the five that the Jounin had to deal with only a couple had managed to leave their shack with something other than the clothes on their back, while the others shot menacing glares as if that was supposed to mean something. Now came the fun part of actually figuring out how to dispose of these guys as simple Taijutsu would surely do the trick though he did need to keep an eye on the two that had weapons. It was decided that those would be the one's to be dealt with first and in what would have seemed like an instant to the untrained bandits Taichi had positioned himself next to one of the armed bandits before delivering a side chop to his next; the end result being a heap of a man falling to the ground.
Upon seeing this another who was just a few feet away came rushing at the Jounin. Chakra would begin to gather down the length of Taichi's arm as he met the man halfway with a forceful blow that sent him flying back. Bakuton would have been useful there and probably would have scared the others off, but why waste the chakra? He turned to face the remaining three bandits and wondered how best to deal with them. They were smart enough not to blindly rush in like their comrades and instead were spaced out in an arch formation. A quick string of hand seals caused a palm sized rock to form in Taichi's hand which he quickly reared back and launched at the left-most bandit. His amazing muscle mass and strength propelled the rock to a near blinding speed and the man had been clocked in the head well before he could react. While he would have preferred to use that technique again it was unlikely that the remaining two would just stand around and wait to get hit.
Now it was time to enter the mental arts, namely genjutsu. With both of his opponents staring him squarely in the face they would have little chance to avoid this technique; sometimes it was just too easy. Another string of hand seals and moments later the two men would see their deaths replayed over and over again. A rather cruel technique and simple technique, but to those would could not escape it a never ending nightmare. With the two now immobilized Taichi quickly went over and dispatched of them with quick, ye firm punches. It was more mercy than anything, as he could have let them continue to suffer through that genjutsu for who knows how long. Regardless, it was now time to enter the shacks and search for the stones, but first the Jounin glanced over at his partner to see if she was handling things on her side.

He looked to be nothing but brawn, but she supposed it wasn't entirely unreasonable to find that there was at least a little bit of brain in there. Despite being intelligent and preferring brains over brawn (though she possessed a good bit of both), Masumi had studied very little in the way of genjutsu.
Well, he had everything under control. She nodded at him when he looked over at her, and then disappeared into the shack. The men that had stayed within had acquired weapons; one of them held a staff that was as tall as she was, and the other had a short sword that he seemed to be quite proficient with. He would be her focus; she created a water clone a moment later to deal with the other.
The man with the sword lunged at her, aiming for a death blow right from the start, but she kicked him in the stomach and sent him flying before he reached her. He crashed into a table and a couple chairs, losing his grip on his sword. The loud crash startled the other man, who was swiftly disarmed by her clone when he turned his head to check on his friend. After a moment of consideration, the clone tossed the staff outside the shack, where the bandit would have to fight past it and Masumi herself to retrieve it.
Unfortunately, the disarmed bandit landed a lucky hit when he pounced upon the clone, and it dissolved into water underneath him. That allowed both men to focus upon the teen, which they thought would give her a lot more trouble.

The nod assured Taichi that everything was going smoothly on the Chunin's end and watched as she entered the shack. The sound of battle could be heard coming from inside followed by the ejection of a rather lengthy staff flying out of the place. Given how little Masumi actually showed on her exterior hearing her fight might have made one think she was rather energetic. However, Taichi knew better than to think something like that given their previous interactions. With his bandits successfully taken care of there was only one thing left to do and that was find the Kingdom Hearts.
The Jounin entered the shack and wondered how anyone, let alone multiple grown men, could live in such conditions. No matter, there were stones to be found. Immediately the man got to overturning chairs, opening up drawers and cabinets, and flipping desks. If he were a bandit where would one put some previous loot? As high as possible, of course! Taichi rose to the second floor via the stairs on the left side of the shack and immediately caught site of a decent sized safe sitting in the corner of the room. Chances were the stones were inside and while he would have preferred to blast it open with another exploding kunai that may have been over kill. Instead, Taichi channeled a rather large amount of chakra to his right hand and landed a square-on punch to the front of the safe which blew open with ease. As he predicted there were three multi-colored stones sitting inside, meaning that the others must have been in the other shack.
Taichi carefully placed the stones into his weapons pack and made his way outside of the shack to await his partner. He had full faith that she would be able to take care of whatever was happening inside and find the remaining stones. This also served as a chance to serve as lookout just in case there were any other surprises these bandits had in store.

She knew for sure that it had collapsed his windpipe; she'd put all her considerable strength into the blow. He crumpled to the floor in a heap, and his partner nearly tripped over his corpse, giving her the opening to deliver another powerful kick to the man's stomach. Groaning, he collapsed, and she pulled out a kunai and slit his throat before he could even try to react. Then, she deactivated the technique she'd been using; it could be fairly taxing on her chakra if she used it for any longer than she needed to.
She moved both corpses to a corner of the room, where they were out of the way, and began a thorough search of the little shack, examining every little space between floorboards, every little portion of the wall that looked less than solid. Masumi moved all the furniture, did everything she could possibly do, until she came across a hidden compartment that contained three of the precious stones. She carefully stowed them away in her pack before exiting the shack, to find Taichi waiting for her.
"I found three of the stones; I assume you have the other three." she stated simply. "Let us make haste in our return to the village."
Masumi didn't want to admit it, but she was feeling pretty tired. Not only had she used quite a portion of her reserves, but it had also been almost a week since the chunin had gotten any sleep at all. After their long trek here, and the fighting, and her mental battle with the urge to lie down and sleep for about twelve hours, she wasn't exactly in prime condition. The walk back home would be killer, but the faster they got there, the faster she would be able to rest. i've come to burn your kingdom down. |

It would only be a few minutes until Taichi caught site of Masumi exiting the shack, hopefully with her three stones in tow. This had been a relatively simple mission, though the personalities involved caused quite the awkwardness from the outside looking in. But the Jounin didn't mind it at all, and wouldn't mind being paired up with her again. She was competent and didn't waste words, though opening up just a little wouldn't have hurt her. But those were things that could be discussed once they returned to the village which was a still an entire day's walk away.
"Yeah, hidden in plain sight." He replied whilst recollecting the events that had just taken place. Taichi had expected more of a resistance and wondered how they buffoons managed to invade the house of some nobles. Perhaps Iwa would begin receiving requests for stationary body guards of noble families because of this incident which Taichi would be none too pleased to be assigned. He compared such things to the pointless missions he was assigned to as a Genin and would be damned to have to relive those days. But one could not predict what missions the leaders assigned to who, and if it was for the betterment of the village then there was little he could do about it.
"Sounds good." Taichi added, and with that this mission had ended. Simple, yet time consuming. Now came the fun part, which was walking back the entire way to Iwa. Chances were the two would make the trip in one fell swoop and not stop for the night. Granted, it was still rather early so they would be able to make decent distance before the heat of the day set in. Other than that, there would probably be a ton of silence.
