The boy was skeptical, that was for certain. So.... many.... questions. An eyebrow rose over Kuro's face, not one of displeasure- just one of intrigue. It was rare to see a child have such questions about swords. But that was the price to pay of being a ninja- Children somewhat sacrificed their... their freedom. As they began Fuku began firing back as they began to walk. "Correct. It does talk, but not in the way you'd think." it was hard to explain. To put it bluntly, it was like communicating with feelings, intent and pictures in a way. It was like communication with instinct.
When she asked what it wanted, Fuku stumbled a little bit and became silent for a moment. "It tasted a bit of your chakra. It likes you. Also, yes it does regularly- I don't notice and No." Fuku stayed silent to let them speak. Another gust of wind, only colder this time and Fuku placed the sword to break the wind slightly- and he shuddered again. You don't feel it, quit complaining.." Fuku could see their surroundings quickly change from the empty field of Hinata's grave to a gravel path that would slowly be leading up to the side of Kirigakure, and if anything it seemed there was more water than there was land now. Not that Fuku was bothered- it was something in every day life. And it wasn't called the Land of Water for no reason.
When the boy asked to see the sword properly- Fuku turned to look at the boy to study his expression. At the least he was trying to not be ignorant. Fuku was only happy to oblige. "Eh." He brought the sword over to their level and gave it a flick, the bandages started coming undone- his other hand grabbing to yank the bandages back into his holster. As it came undone the slightly tinted purple flaked sword was visible. There wasn't enough chakra going through Samehada to have any big scales and just looked like a sandpaper popsicle.
Fuku pumped some chakra through the handle into the sword, so much so that the head of Samehada produced a slit and opened up, revealing a set of sharp teeth.
"Samehada."

Hell, if Kuro had heard that on the battlefield then he wouldn't have wanted to fight anymore, so perhaps intimidation had something to do with it; and wrapping the entire thing in bandages served to further that conclusion. Just scare the opponent out of a fight. "I have every right to be skeptical, this sounds too good to be true." He replied while attempting to snap Iku out of this fascination of hers. If the sword did turn out to be a fake then the girl would surely be devastated, and Kuro would be forced to sit there and pick up the pieces. He was just trying to soften the blow.
Kuro didn't really pay attention to the next few moments as the guy had just been answering more of Iku's question. All the boy was interested in was seeing it, nothing else. However he did take note of the barren wilderness starting to take on signs of human development, specifically in the form of a gravel path laid out to lead to the village. They were getting closer and Kuro was happy because too many more of those cold blasts of wind and there would have been a giant Hozuki-sicle in a few minutes. Perhaps one day when he became a Chunin he would be assigned a mission that took him somewhere warmer and not covered in mist.
The Genin stopped when the man turned and looked at him, as if he was studying him. Had the request to see the sword struck a nerve? Possibly because it was fake? The truth would finally come to light. What the boy saw next was difficult to describe, the best he could do was see it as a bunch of large scales. What kind of sword was that? Perhaps it would be useful if the man wanted his opponent to smell like fish. Then came a slit which opened up to a huge set of... teeth? Kuro's eyes twitched, a few times to be exact, and he would have jumped back if Iku hadn't had him in a death grip. What the hell was this thing, and surely with teeth that sharp chakra wasn't the only thing it was eating.
"... I.. uh... teeth." That was the best Kuro could manage at this point. It would take a few moments for the boy to gather himself though Iku would probably have enough questions for the both of them until the Hozuki could regain his bearings.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]you had your heart set on an angel's kiss maybe a taste of bliss maybe a long white dress and a fistful of flowers you wrapped your arms around a murderer pretending it didn't hurt every time i cut you deeper and deeper i'm not the one i'm not the one Ooh, so it did talk. Nice. Iku was about to ask if maybe she could hold it and and talk to it for a minute but she figured that would be a little too much to ask of him. "I wonder who made it. You'd have to be something special to figure out how to put together a sword like that. Or like... what if it was some sort of creature and it evolved like that and then someone decided to stick a handle on it?" Admittedly, that theory was a little on the crazy side, but in the world of shinobi, crazy things happened every day.
Perhaps it was silly, but Iku was happy that the sword liked her. It's not everyone that can say they met a sentient sword creature thing and it liked them. "Heh, well, I like you too, Samehada." For a moment she was tempted to reach out and pet it, like she would a dog or cat, but again, she figured she probably shouldn't touch it - especially not without the guy's permission. And what a weird question that is. 'Hey, can I touch your sword?' Yeah. Not happening.
Then the swordsman acquiesced to Kuro's request and unwrapped the sword. It looked almost like a sheet of sandpaper, which didn't seem like it could do very much. "Is that what it always looks like under the bandages, or can you change it?" After her question, a slit opened up on Samehada, showing them some very sharp-looking teeth.
Iku was speechless for a long moment, then turned to Kuro and elbowed him again. "I told you it could eat you." She paused to consider something, and then she was firing more questions at the man. "Has it ever eaten anyone? What would happen to the flesh if it did? Eww, could it puke it up on you? That would be gross." words: 322 tags: fuku + kuro notes: ~o~ lyrics: nothing to do with love by halestorm credit: akemi of btn * you wanna give your heart to |

There was only one possible response- Laughter.
Fuku laughed at the boy's response. It was an unexpected one. As the girl spoke he rose his eyebrow again at her. "You ask odd questions." it was completely true. It was like a toddler asking questions about the world and everything led to a 'why' Samehada was docile for the moment, while Fuku brought the sword up and looked down Samehada's scales, picking out a bit of stray bandaging. Fuku hadn't actually answered yet and just decided against it.
Finally it appeared they were getting somewhere because now the gravel path had receded and a light mist began rolling around their feet- a very light grey. "It's going to warm up a little bit now, I think." and there it was. Out of the tip of the horizon was the gates of Kirigakure- a looming mist settling over it just like always. That was something you could never get used to. Fuku began to slow himself down- now in sights of the gates was something he relished. I wonder if Kyoko-chan is still at home in bed... it hadn't even hit noon yet. A couple of Shinobi passing by gave their silent nodding making their way back- though a little more hurried. They looked pretty ragged.
"They're coming back from border patrol. Poor sods." Little did the Genin know, but Fuku didn't- and he was about to tell them. "The reason those Shinobi are so tired is because they ran the big eight. See, border patrol runs four groups, two on a ring. There are two rings, one on the inner ring of Mizu no Kuni and the other on the outside. People who are being punished are put on the outside. Because of the ring they run, the people on the outside need to run twice as fast as the inner ring Shinobi to keep up with them and hit checkpoints at certain times." Fuku could say that he had been on that outer ring more than once himself. "Oh, and Taijutsu experts like to do the outer ring for the giggles."
Not exactly, but Fuku was sure they knew what he meant. Samehada was still unwrapped- Fuku was going to be putting the bandages back on soon. Close your mouth, now. Fuku thought, and it done as asked.

Was she unable to take a moment to just appreciate, or fear in Kuro's case, what was before them? If it really could eat people then the girl was probably next on the list, if just to get a bit of silence. Kuro thought about it for a moment and figured he wouldn't make a tasty snack, too watery. That would be his saving grace should that thing try and take a liking to human flesh. It was no wonder why the man kept it wrapped in bandages, the thing was an eyesore, to be honest, and probably scared most who saw it; though why a sentient thing would allow itself to be wrapped up was a bit confusing.
Kuro noticed the man didn't answer any of Iku's questions and hoped that he wouldn't receive another elbow if she got frustrated. That seemed to be her trademark, hitting. Maybe she got it from being around that rough sister of hers... made sense. Warmer air took the boy's mind off of Iku long enough to notice the outline of the village gates on the horizon; they were getting close. The mist came along as well, dancing around their feet as if to welcome them back to the village. This Kuro didn't mind though walking in it when conditions were poor was a pain in the ass, even after all these years. Dark hues caught site of the two shinobi that walked past them, indeed they were worse for ware. Perhaps a rough mission, or some intense training? Either way they looked in need of some rest.
Border patrol? Was it honestly that rough? The man's explanation made it seem so, as well as making it none too appealing. Outer rings were for punishment and those who enjoyed the thrill of running, apparently, which meant those two guys they had just passed must have been in one of those categories. Kuro would make a mental note not to fuck up and be sent on border patrol... ever. He wasn't all that fast to begin with, and if the conditions were too hot he would have to stop and drink up, which would probably land him in more trouble.
While he could have left his mouth shut and let Iku ask all the questions it was safe to say that both he and the man were tired of them... and probably the sword too. "So... which ring do you run?" He asked, attempting to make a joke. He could have been more specific but that was the fun, to see if the man was clever enough to figure out he was being mocked. Hopefully Iku wouldn't take notice or else another elbow would surely come flying Kuro's way.

"I'm an odd person." She did note that he wasn't offering any more answers. Perhaps he had gotten annoyed. Oh well, at least he answered some of her questions. She would have to resume pestering him at a later date, then. "I ask questions because I like to know things, y'know. It's not just to annoy you." Which was always what people assumed, for some strange reason. It couldn't be because she seemed to be a shallow airhead with a talent for pissing people off, though. Nope. It certainly wasn't that.
She saw the haggard-looking shinobi also heading back to the village, and was just about to open her mouth and ask if the swordsmen knew them or knew why they were so tired, but at that moment the man spoke up - almost as if he'd read her mind or something. Weird. "Sounds pretty rough." It did sound like pretty good training, though - but Iku would never be crazy enough to run something like that 'for the giggles,' as the man had put it, no matter how badly she wanted to improve. "I can't imagine doing something like that just because." Some people took things like that to ridiculous levels. And hey, you never know - in the future she could end up being one of those crazy people. She doubted it, but anything was possible. If anything, she would end up running the outer ring because her mouth got her in trouble, as it often did.
Iku figured she should probably stop with all the questions. After all, it was no fun being around people that were annoyed at you, and while Kuro seemed to be able to put up with the incessant questions for a while, she was surely wearing away on his nerves at least a little bit. words: 314 tags: fuku + kuro notes: ~o~ lyrics: nothing to do with love by halestorm credit: akemi of btn * you wanna give your heart to |

That was one way to put it, he supposed. The male child had found himself serenity in a new-found silence. Not one that Fuku was worried about, however the question itself was strained onto the border patrol. "The female ring." and Fuku coughed, to stop himself from chuckling at his own joke before biting the bullet and speaking- "I've run the outer ring plenty of times. Don't think I've ever run the inner ring." and that was the truth. From simple subordination, to fully painstaking mistakes- Fuku had run that ring many times. It's probably been about a year since I last ran it...
Paperwork handed in wrong both to the wrong person and incorrectly completed. But the SSM were supposed to be brutal and savage! Fuku pretty much regarded himself as the civil savage. He was more than capable of slaughter... and he didn't like that in the slightest.
Fuku began wrapping Samehada back up, who was yet still quite docile- and even so Fuku seemed quite elegant flicking his wrist as the bandage flew off his hand and around the sword and slowly changing it's color to a daunting white, curtly making sure it was tight enough to hold onto him, yet loose enough for him to flick his wrist and Samehada would behold in it's glory fairly quickly. His work wasn't sloppy or careless but as he finished it he swung it over his shoulder and there it stayed.
The next minute or so was spent in silence until the gates were a lot closer- only now would there be bustling and hustling people coming through and from the gates. Many merchants, caravans of people- and Ninja in the distance checking the people, their paperwork and identities. Families leaving, or Ninja returning to be serviced back out or to go back to sign off from mission duty (customary time off after lengthy missions) that was something Fuku was all too used to. For the past couple of months though Fuku's missions had been more mentally straining than physical.
The price to pay for being the Civil Savage.

It seemed that Iku had finally realized that her constant string of questions were beginning to annoy everyone. Whether she would actually cut down on asking those questions remained to be seen, though it was a safe bet if anything of interest took place then the questions would once again return. Kuro had learned to tune her out, rather, most women out, and it was quite the skill. All women liked to talk, and they loved when men listened to them, so all the boy had to do was sit there and pretend to listen. A couple nods here and there and a slight smile went a long way.
The Hozuki wasn't surprised to hear the man's answer of which ring he ran, not in the least. He looked to be a guy that got himself in all kinds of trouble, mostly of the insubordination type. Perhaps the guy was lazy and maybe a bit rude to his superiors, and thus he was forced to run along the border of the country. While it did sound terrible being on an island probably lessened the toll it would take on one's body compared to one of the landlocked countries. This didn't mean that the boy had any desire to run the outer ring, of course, and if he could avoid it the inner one as well. Kuro didn't enjoy running and would much rather be placed on gate duty. Looking at those who were performing their duty now it didn't seem all that bad, just monotonous; definitely much less straining than running around Mizu no Kuni.
He wasn't sure what was to happen now as they had reached the village. If the man decided to go his separate way then Kuro would be forced to have that talk with Iku, and that was something he really didn't want to do, not by a long shot. It then donned on him that he didn't know the man's name, granted the man didn't know his but knew that he was a Hozuki so it was still uneven. "So what do we call you, since I doubt you'll enjoy Mr. Swordsman over and over." Kuro asked, rather stated to the man. If anything this would buy him a few more moments to think of a way to avoid being alone with Iku.

She had heard better out of her sister, for god's sake, and that was kind of sad, because Kazue didn't have a sense of humor at all - couldn't tell a joke or take one. It was kind of pathetic, really. "So, you're a troublemaker, hmm?" She wondered what kinds of things he did to get the outer ring as a punishment; the Seven Swordsmen weren't exactly known for being civilized and polite, so... A couple dozen things jumped to her mind, and she had to stifle a giggle at the mental images of some of them.
Iku reached up and made a valiant effort to ruffle Kuro's hair. Damn his height, and damn the stupid family tendency of being short. If she didn't at least reach five and a half feet tall by the time she hit eighteen, she was going to throw a fit. It just wasn't fair to be so short. "Don't be silly, Kuro. Clearly his name is Samehada guy." she told him, feigning the tone of one speaking sage wisdom. "He wields Samehada, and he's a guy. Not that hard to figure out."
The girl waved at the gate guards, a couple of chunin she didn't think she'd ever seen before, but they didn't wave back. They never did. God, that had to be such a sucky job, just sitting there and watching everyone that entered and exited the village. You couldn't even do anything fun. Iku thought she would go stir crazy if she ever had to do that. Hell, she would rather run that damn outer ring than sit there guarding the gate all day. Seriously, it wasn't even putting any skills to use, except being observant. Poor gate guards. They must be bored out of their skulls. words: 329 tags: fuku + kuro notes: ~o~ lyrics: nothing to do with love by halestorm credit: akemi of btn * you wanna give your heart to |

"You can-"
Interrupted. That wasn't good. Fuku mildly shrugged and turned the other way when the girl spoke, he had better things to think about. One nod from Fuku and he received a nod back from the Chuunin at the gate. The sword on his back had made him somewhat easy to identify. Walking through the gates a new scent opened up to him- that of a bakers shop, baking fresh rolls and bread that would be purchased and eaten later tonight. He was fond of that baking smell. He in himself wasn't the kind to voice that, though.
Turning towards the other two. His curiosity got the better of him. "Are you two in a relationship?" With the girl wrapped around the boy in a vice like grip, it seemed to look that way. Although, truthfully it did seem that the boy wasn't a fan of having ten puncture marks from her claws. Fuku thought of his wife at home in wait, probably having awoken now and seeing his dissapearance would only assume that Fuku had gone out for the small grieving that he needed to do. Not out of sorrow, but out of a respect that only he and Hinata shared. Even in that final moment, where everything stopped and time slowed- where Fuku took the final strike across her chest.
That was the end of it. Fuku spoke to the two of them - "Okay. I'm going now. Sayonara~" and he dissapeared via Shunshin. In truth, Fuku had not dissapeared. What he had done was take a diagonal shunshin into the nearby alleyway, and backed himself up onto a roof. What was he going to be doing?
These two are interesting.. I'll watch for a little while before I head back to Kyoko-chan.
Keeping himself hidden- he waited.

She was better off sticking to the vast amount of questions she had been asking earlier than saying such things. There were no words that the boy could utter that appropriately showed his confusion, anger, and more confusion. Had she been feigning intelligence the entire time and was actually quite stupid? It'd make sense considering how many questions she asked, or maybe the Genin was just overreacting because he knew that in a matter of moments he would have to be alone with her, that was unless he could figure out a way to keep the other guy around.
Just about as the man was going to give his name he was interrupted by the gate guards interjecting. Such poor timing but they had a job to perform. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal had the man not ran off just moments after. He had given a small good bye then simply disappeared. Kuro's jaw dropped. Had he not seen the way Iku had latched herself onto him for most of their time together? Surely he could have known what was to come if he left them alone and hadn't seen fit to try and save the Hozuki if just for a few more minutes. Betrayal, that's what it was. Fuku had broken man code to the highest degree by stranding his fellow man with a female that he obviously did not want to be around.
The boy sighed internally but said nothing, he knew Iku would cover that department in only a few moments. They were about to have a talk, more specifically the talk. Kuro had been evading her for quite some time and was bound to hear about it until his ears fell off, but that wasn't something he could control, at least not for the time being.

Were they in a relationship? She liked Kuro, and he seemed to like her back - to some people that was enough to consider it a relationship, but Iku wasn't one of those people. In her mind, a relationship began when the boy started taking her on dates and buying her pretty things. And it seemed that the Hoozuki wasn't going to offer up his own opinion on the question. "Uh. Well. Kind of? I guess it depends on how you define a relationship. We like each other, but it isn't much more than that." she explained, hoping that Kuro wasn't going to get mad at her for that - not that he had any right to be mad about something like that after avoiding her for what felt like forever.
"Oh, okay. See you later, Samehada guy!" Iku waved as he disappeared. "Well, that was pretty cool, wasn't it? For a member of the Swordsmen, he seems pretty... nice and civilized, doesn't he?"
She looked up at the boy's face and saw the look of betrayal upon it, which hurt her feelings. Did he really hate her so much for whatever reason that he didn't even want to stay and have a talk with her? Iku had the feeling that that 'kind of' would be becoming a 'not at all' pretty damn soon. "Uh, so I'm pretty sure today was my day to cook dinner, and I totally forgot about it - so I'll just see you around some other time, okay?" she lied - not only did she never willingly go home to do chores, but her mother would never let her in the kitchen after she'd set the stove on fire - and smiled weakly. "Bye, Kuro."
She detached herself from the boy and began to walk away. He'd probably be relieved to see her go. words: 326 tags: fuku + kuro notes: ~o~ lyrics: nothing to do with love by halestorm credit: akemi of btn * you wanna give your heart to |

He hadn't had adequate enough time to come up with an excuse for getting out of talking with Iku, though if he had any stones about him then perhaps he would have been the one to initiate the talk. Alas, that was not the case and the Hozuki was none to pleased with having to think on the fly. It was weird how the past few moments had transpired and for the most part he still couldn't get over how the swordsman had just up and left, especially without giving a name. Granted, he wasn't obligated to and he had actually tried before getting interrupted, but was his attention span that small to where he couldn't remember that he was in the middle of a conversation?
Whatever, that didn't matter now. The guy was gone and it was only Iku and Kuro remaining. That was, until she mentioned having to go home and start cooking dinner. Odd, Kuro had never pegged the girl as a cooking type, but that only served to further tell how little he actually knew about her. Perhaps having this talk wouldn't be too bad after all. The two of them did have fun together, but that was superficial and they rarely talked about anything of merit. Granted, this was more Kuro's doing as he never let details loose to his crushes as they usually didn't stay around long enough to care. Maybe if he actually opened up things would be different. Meh, whatever, now he was alone and had time to think things over... or sleep. Yeah, that felt like a good idea. Being out in the cold weather made the prospect of sleeping in a warm bed extremely appealing, and so that was what the boy was going to do. With a shrug the Hozuki began the decent sized trek back to his abode.

That was boring. Fuku gave a sigh. He thought there was going to be some unfinished business. Having just met the two of them- he could see they had some sort of relationship. Especially since the way they had stuttered and if anything- said anything at all. Though it could've been a warning to say 'completely not', Fuku figured.
He gave a sigh, and began his Shinobi trudge back to his humble abode- and back to his wife. There was probably still a lot of stuff to do today.
