Chatango Name: NeoDawn Suggestion:I guess this is both a suggestion and a help thread, but I apparently have absolutely no idea how to assign rank to techniques. Maybe I’m the only person who is confused by this, but I would really, really like to see something, likely in the custom details section, that outlines the rank of techniques. Is rank dependent on potential damage? Threat level? Complexity? Does it affect the chakra expenditure of said technique? I guess basically I’d just like some more definite systems as to how this should be determined. Staff member you wish to have review this?Doc. Need a higher up to either do this, delegate it for someone to do, or say no.

Ranking Guidelines
E-rank: Nothing. For the most part, no jutsu you create should be E-rank unless it is a byproduct of an academy jutsu. This means like Oiroke no Jutsu, which is merely a Henge. There may be a few other cases like Sennen Goroshi, but in that case you hardly need to register a jutsu for it.
D-rank: Technique is often ineffective unless opponent is caught off guard. Technique can be easily dodged, blocked, or avoided for even genin-level shinobi. Defensive techniques may block only low-leveled weapons such as kunai, shuriken, or standard punches.
C-rank: Techniques can injure opponents. It is hard to cause permanent damage and requires precise aim and precision to maim an opponent. These techniques may only kill when very specific conditions are met (i.e. a direct strike to the heart). The technique is easily followed, avoided, broken or dodged by most novice shinobi. Technique can be blocked by basic techniques.
B-rank: Technique may be very powerful an can maim/injure multiple opponents. It may kill with very specified aim and precision. Technique may be difficult to break, however it may have major drawbacks should the technique fail. Techniques of this rank may also be countered easily.
A-rank: Technique is specialized and may kill/injure/maim many people at once. However, technique has holes, is avoidable, or can be dodged, though it may have incredible power similar to an S-rank. Technique is hard to break, but not unbreakable. Usually technique will have high chakra cost.
S-rank: Technique is near one of a kind and requires much specialization or technique can kill/injure/maim many people at once. Technique is hard/near impossible to break and might sometimes have one very specific weakness (and in very rare cases none at all). The technique does not have obvious limits. Usually the technique should have high chakra costs (but there may be some exceptions).
Here is my take on what jutsu guidelines to help you should be min I hope this helps you to decide what you are after. I would suggesting looking at other jutsu canan and customs to get a feel what certain ones of certain rank my offer you can only learn if you try to resister some so I hope this helps. I know I am not doc answering he probably will after me, but just to help you a bit while I was looking at stuff.

There is a general rule of thumb when trying to distinguish said rank of a technique: "Don't." At least in terms of trying to divide and specify things relating to all the aspects a jutsu can possess - strength, chakra usage, speed, complexity, simplicity, size, prerequisites, type of technique[most important in factoring] etc - i could go on but i'm sure you know that it's not endless but long.
You assign ranks based on your own individual assumption, of course, we "staff" shall inform you if it seems too much for its rank or too little.
However, there is one thing i would like to address, the one thing that mainly defines a technique is its complexity, no matter what "type" of technique is used, it will always come down to complexity being a huge factor, genjutsu[more vivid illusions = higher rank], ninjutsu[more advanced application for shape / elemental manipulation = higher rank], taijutsu[more advanced movements = higher ranked], fuinjutsu[more complex seals = higher rank] However, like in the aforementioned statement above, it's nigh impossible for the member to designate or us to properly measure the rank of technique, as such we use a rule: "Go off what's described and it's effects, decide it's rank on that, if it seems too powerful for it's rank, up the rank or tone it down, seems to fast for its rank, up the rank or town it down, if it seems to complex for its rank, up the rank, or town it down, etc.
So i can not, or more, should not, try to list all the variables into deciding ranks, and it should be your and our staff's duty to try to come up with reasonable rankings for different techniques.
I'm sorry i won't be able to, or our site won't be able to, comply with systems created to levy your wants, but i will tell you, just continue doing it the way you've been doing it to the best of your predictive and reasoning abilities, and our lovely and reliable staff will ask you to modify if needed.
-Thank You for Suggesting.
Edit: Sirena posted an outline, but as i've said before, it won't always come down to those aspects. However, you can use that as a sort of "helpful" guide if need be, but it all depends on the technique itself.
