► Appearance
Chigetsu's body seems to mirror her personality: firm, lithe, trained, scarred. Sheltered from life outside the mist, the young woman's body is pale in tone and susceptible to the sun without protection, but it makes living in the mist and colder temperatures more bearable. Although thin, it remains sculpted for war, conflict, and enmity, being finely toned from the top down for the sake of optimum efficiency. Granted, its stature is usually masked behind cloth and heavy cloaks, so it deceives those who base their opinions on first impressions. Underneath such veils, her body appears to be of twigs and sticks when in reality she possesses a build fitting of a martial artist. However, at one-hundred fifteen pounds, it becomes hard to detest such a justified opinion. Her height caps at a projected five and six feet tall, and in summary, her physical stature isn't very intimidating.
She bears a crown of blonde locks that extend an inch or two below her shoulder blades. Her eyes are an abstract shade of blue, being closer to indigo than anything else. Sometimes they may even pass as purple in under the right circumstances. As such they tell an abstract tale of loneliness and content, brokenness and completion. Looking into her eyes, it is possible to see a powerful woman capable of leading her peers with ease, but every now and then they bare semblance of a confused and hopeless child. It is very much unlike her visage, which tends to be eagerly aloof more often than not. It can best be described as a soft expression that takes in everything without being too serious in the process. She also has a contract seal made using her blood on her back in the form of a pearl, which allows her to summon her clams without hand seals.
In terms of clothing, Chigetsu has a particular attire for times of combat. It consists of a completely black cloak, her Jōnin flak vest, an upper-bodysuit, quarter length pants, and sandals. Aside from being black, the cloak lacks design, has large sleeves, and splits down the middle after the waistline. The vest is form fitting, lacks pockets, has shoulder guards, and comes in a slate-gray color. The body suit is black, has a turtleneck, and only covers her crotch area up to her neck. Her pants are black and are not form fitting, which hides the figure of her lower body. The sandals are, more precisely, open-toed, shinobi boots in the form of sandals, and they extend high enough for her to tuck and secure the ends of her pants into them. With this, she wears a kunai holster on her right thigh and an item pouch on her left hip.
Her casual wear bears little difference, as she rarely ceases to wear her Jōnin attire. Whenever she does though, she dresses in such a way as to hide her figure from other people. In fact, she constantly wears a synthetic fiber around her chest that keeps her breasts pressed firm against her body. This in turn prevents any bulge.
► Mental Assessment
Chigetsu lives her life with a chip that should be on her shoulder instead far removed. She pays no homage to the past that propelled her through the ranks. Instead, she tucks those memories away and neglects them, and in turn, she ends up neglecting herself. For while she has mastered the art of mental stoicism, she is unable to restrict the effects of the things that she pretends aren't important. She was raised to think that she was a disgrace and a disappointment no matter how well she did. Her victories never overwhelmed her failures. She was always hard pressed from claims of disdain, claims that stripped her from the inside like subterfuge. She doesn't just stuff the abuse of the past in a mental pocket because she is afraid of confronting it, she stuffs it in a mental pocket because she feels that she deserved it.
As such, she has a silent and reserved nature about herself, the type of person who lives to work, go home, enjoy, and sleep. She moves with the motions in her everyday life, finding solace only in the threat and the heat of battle. Knowing that someone could easily kill her, yet fighting her hardest to remain alive: something about the perplexity of that futility excites the young woman. It is all she has to look forward to. She is a conservative person then in her interaction with other people. She doesn't speak much; rather, she observes, and when she does speak, she says only what is needed to get her point across. It is a fluid way of communication, one that reveals little secrets.
She is also conservative in her style of dress as well, hiding her figure at all times. She has never been proud of her body, despite the few compliments that have come her way in her lifetime. It's not that she thinks that she is ugly. Instead, it is actually the voice of her father ringing through her head that begets such a disposition: "I figured I could raise you to be a peerless warrior, but it seems you'll be like all the other girls, making a living by parting your legs." It was no secret that Shigetsu loathed the thought of a daughter, but it also became clear that Chigetsu was going to live up to that standard somehow—the cruel irony being that even though she is very close to meeting that standard it feels as if she is still aeons away.
However, there does seem to be an exception that has lodged itself into the woman's life. Yes, it is a man, one with whom she has been acquainted with for years now. No, they aren't dating; they're just friends. They've always been just friends, and surprisingly enough, he has been her only crush since youth. She desires more with him of course, but her mind betrays her heart—her father's voice restrains her desires. Lust has become rivalry, and love has become admiration: her only chance at love is locked at "best friend". You can say that such a paradox is reason for her living as well, for as long as she is alive, there is hope that she can muster the gall to confess her feelings.
But that would put her at odds with her dad's wishes, no? As much as she wishes it were otherwise, it remains a hard truth that most of Chigetsu's thoughts are not her own. At its very foundation, Chigetsu's personality is lathered with the influence of her patriarch. Hōzuki Shigetsu, the young woman's father, is responsible of the the woman that you see today.
Virtually all but one thought and disposition of Chigetsu's is unoriginal: her apathy towards the Hidden Mist. No, she cares nothing for the village itself. She cares nothing for the Mizukage either. In fact, she has felt the desire to leave the village several times before in the past, and other times, she has simply flirted with the thought in her mind's eye. Now, she doesn't hate her village, neither is she a megalomaniac aiming to break the bonds of her village for more freedom. She doesn't like the place much and is finally at a point in life where she can leave. What would she do if she left? She has no idea, but the feeling that she gets when she's in the Mist . . . sometimes . . . . Maybe it is accurate to say that she stays for only one person, her brother.
► Background Information
Disdain filled her patriarch's heart when he saw that his wife had bore him a daughter. His soul cried out at such a curse, that the kami had made his backup plan into such a fragile being. But he cursed them back when he named her after the rare, blood moon. Hōzuki Shimura Chigetsu, her middle name coming from her grandfather, was thus born into antipathy in the month of February on the seventh day.
While upset with the hand that he had been dealt, it is important to note that Shigetsu really did love his daughter. In fact, part of why he was upset was imagining her having to live such a life as he. It was life fitting for a son, but not a daughter. Yet, he couldn't fight the compulsion to usher her into that world that he knew. She would be a ninja as a matter of heritage. No child of his would live the life of a layman. And it was in fact his love for Chigetsu that lead to him being so hard on her. Because she was more fragile than Engetsu, the man's son, she would have to trained harder than him to reach success.
Thus, Chigetsu's ninja studies began at the age of three. Unlike her brother before her, Shigetsu believed that his daughter would be unable to survive in the wilderness alone, so her training was home based. This meant that it not only had to be harder (otherwise she would get too comfortable), but it also had to begin earlier than Engetsu's training. At this age, she was doing more than just the typical reading and idle practice. She was pushed to learn the Hydrification Technique around this time, which she successfully learned a year later. It was intense throughout that third year though. Her father always rebuked her when she did something wrong, talked down on her when she messed up. He never ceased to bring her gender into her failures.
Even if they weren't training he was on her like white on rice, but unlike the type of people that would fold, Chigetsu actually adapted. She became good at becoming what she thought her father needed her to be, all in an attempt to gain his approval. Even at the age of three she was learning to read him and adjust accordingly, which decreased the frequency of her father's fits of anger. That was like a reward to her, and just like a puppy being trained, that positive reinforcement enabled Chigetsu's desire to bend to her father's will. She was in effect learning to manipulate people by learning to fool herself.
It was during her fourth year however that her father pushed a button that he had never pushed before. He had basically told her that she would never be good for anything other than laying on her back. She didn't understand the expression at the time, but the malice in his voice was enough to let Chigetsu know that it was something bad. She girded her loins after that, which led to her learning the Hydrification Technique during the summer, and she mastered it two months after that.
There was also training in Taijutsu however. Well, they were more so beatings than training lessons. It was simple: her father would pummel her, give her a day to assess what had happened, and then go at it again the day after in hopes that she would get better. In fact, she did. It was nothing immediate, but that form of training introduced her to analysis and strategy. Her method of assessment went from mentally trying to recall everything to taking notes to taking said notes mentally over the course of the battle. She learned her father's patterns and was able to fight on par with him, only for him to kick it up again and send her back to square one.
By the age of six, Chigetsu was able to enter the academy. There she was easily able to stand out both to her teachers and her peers as a talent unmatched in her class. Some of her classmates were envious, which lead to attempts at bullying, but Chigetsu found herself making friends with them whenever she came after them. The way that she was able to appeal to them and read them and bend to gain favor with them always kept her away from conflict. She even made a habit of helping them as a farce of friendship just to keep her progression sound and easy. As far as the teachers, some actually trained her personally and apart from her class, helping her to further her Hydrification Technique. One teacher in particular, a woman named Obito, actually helped her to find her niche. While her father had been preparing her for Kenjutsu, Obito was able to show Chigetsu that her genius really lay in the area of Genjutsu.
By the middle of that school year, Chigetsu had developed quite a few Genjutsu of her own, and even though that versatility allowed her to graduate early (in the middle of that year in fact) her father was disgraced at his daughter's change from the sword to illusions, and he let her know it. He withdrew from her after that, and told her that if she wanted to pursue that path she should turn to the one who taught her.
Unlike in the "modern day", Chigetsu wasn't assigned to a Genin squad. War was raging during those days, so she was put on the field under a common infantry squad. It consisted of herself, two Chūnin, and two Jōnin. They were on the front lines of every, assigned battlefront, foot soldiers essentially. Chigetsu served under this squad for two years before she gained a field promotion to Chūnin. It happened during a mission where their Jōnin leader was captured. She was tasked with leading the Chūnin back to base while the second Jōnin saved their leader. They were pursued, but under Chigetsu's leadership, she was actually able to systemically pick her pursuers apart after only seconds of chase. After that, she ordered a return to their leader's place of capture, which lead to them arriving in time enough to save both their leader and their co-leader. She was eight years old when she got her promotion.
As the months passed by, Chigetsu was moved from her old squad to an ambush squad, known as the "Phantoms of the Mist" within their village, and again, she was the odd one out, being the only Chūnin amongst four Jōnin. However, this was where she met the man whom she now considers her best and closest friend. He was around the same as her, if not a bit older, when they first met in the squad, and that caught her eye, but what made her navigate toward him was the mystery in his ambiance. It was unlike the other shinobi in their squad, or even their village for that matter. It reminded her a bit f herself, which compelled her to learn more about him. Of course, she was still at a point in her life where she was unable to be proactive socially, so she was never able to work up to courage to go to him. Fortunately though, almost as if he could tell that she was interested, the Jōnin instead came to her.
Their first meeting was awkward. When he introduced himself, Chigetsu told him that she already knew who he was, so there was no need for formalities. She explained that she had already done research on him, having asked about him from various sources starting from his instructors down to any associates she could find. Long story short, she knew a few things that only a stalker would know, and she didn't notice how weird things were until she stopped talking. Their second meeting was more normal, and it was then that Chigetsu let slip one her fears: that she was afraid that where she was would be the acme of her ability. It was a premature reveal considered how long they had been acquainted, but the Jōnin was nice enough to offer his aid to her. Maybe he understood? Either way, he became a peer mentor for her after that.
Two years under his tutelage and the tutelage of the clams (with whom she had signed some time after meeting the Jōnin), lead Chigetsu to become a ten year old Jōnin, effectively surpassing any standards that she had of herself. She became noticed for her abilities in leadership and logistics, tactics and strategy, and subterfuge and assassination (skills she learned during her time with the ambush squad). After her promotion, she celebrated with the Jōnin on one of the Mist's beaches. Oddly enough, their conversation somehow navigated toward their expectations of the future. Chigetsu repeated the thoughts of her father, saying that she didn't know what the future would hold, but that she wanted to become a noted warrior of great merits. It so happened though that she was older now, and she was attracted to the boy who had helped her; so she now knew what her father had meant six years ago.
Chigetsu hadn't realized it before, but she had just spent the past, two years of her life clinging a boy.
Disgusting with herself and what she was becoming, she separated herself from the Jōnin after that, choosing to leave the ambush squad to go into ANBU where she became a captain at the age of eleven, but she only stayed there for three years before she tired of the organization. It was the work that she had to do coupled with her fleeting loyalty that fueled her resolve. She couldn't do the dirty work of a village that she wasn't losing drive for. The Mist just seemed darker than it did before. But when she left ANBU and became more dedicated in the regular forces, she found herself apologizing to her former mentor for cutting him off. They became reacquainted, and the Mist started becoming brighter again.
Though they were teamed up very rarely, Chigetsu and the man became known as a fearsome duo during the times that they were together. Some claimed that the only duo that compared was that of Chigetsu and her brother Engetsu—but obviously she was apart of that group as well. It was odd how well she was able to work with her brother despite their somewhat broken relationship. Then again, she had developed something of a mother-complex toward Engetsu, and while she wasn't there for him as often as she would have liked, she thought that she was always there when it mattered. Even when his son was born she was there in the hospital with him.
Chigetsu continued her exploits through the years, and with her alias as the Clam Princess of the Mist (which she gained at age sixteen) her name was all but cemented in the Mist. When it came time for a new Hanchō, she was actually the prime candidate. That election was about a year ago, and she has been the leader of her village's Jōnin ever since.
Special Abilities ► Special Traits
► Physical
- || Mental Aptitude || - Admittedly, Chigetsu doesn't have an intelligence quotient that's over nine-thousand, but that doesn't take away from the woman's intellect and her ability to reason. She is as sharp in mind as most taijutsu masters are in body. She is composed, able to hold her ground through even the most peculiar situations while being able to calmly observe, assess, and deduce the going-ons of her environment. It also helps that she was a studious study as a child, as her reservoir of knowledge is definitely surpassing the majority of her peers. With this experience, she is able to correctly analyze most techniques that she comes across.
She has her father to thank for her mental fortitude and ability to hold her composure. She is so used to pain and hostility that it rarely seems to faze her anymore. In times of duress, she can actually shut out any negative sensations to focus on whatever she needs to focus on. Her will is immaculate in that respect, and breaking her takes a bunch for those who aren't apart of her life. More so, she is able to put on masks like men change clothes, bending her personality and dispositions on a whim. She is a wonderful actor in other words, otherwise a splendid deceiver. Of course, this hints at a more manipulative streak, which is prevalent in the fact that she has developed the ability to perceive the intentions and dispositions of others. Needless to say, she also possesses a very fine eye for detail that ties everything together. - || Logistics || - Not just cunning, Chigetsu is also competent at manipulating, guiding, leading, and dealing with people—most especially large groups of people. She showcases the nature of a general or a chess master, knowing as second nature the abilities of her comrades and opponents and being able to quickly pick up on those that she doesn't already know. She can use this to create mismatches for the opposition, but more important is her ability to learn and dissect her opponent's patterns, whether they be patterns of attack, patterns of movement, patterns of defense, or patterns of command. By this, she can predict what may come next, and for a ninja of her pedigree, it is a life saving trait more often than not. This leads to an ability to formulate complicated plans and formations ahead of time, typically with the ability to predict how the opposition will react in said circumstances.
For this, it is important to then elaborate on the commanding portion of her logistics mastery as well, as a major part of her combat style involves manipulating third parties. Whether it be her summons or her fellow man and/or their summons, Chigetsu has the where-with-all necessary to adjust to various personalities to obtain optimum results from her team. This hints both toward the young woman's ability to operate fluidly with beings and people of all types as well as her ability to efficiently utilize the abilities of those around her, the latter being attested to by the diverse abilities of her comrades. A person fighting Chigetsu will quickly find that her ability to coordinate with third parties, whether as diversion or as assistance in assault, is virtually unmatched and arguably her most dangerous strength. - || Silent Killing || - During her days of youth, before she disgraced her father with her favoring of illusions over the sword, Chigetsu's training was that of a prospective member of the Seven Swords. and her competence with Silent Killing reflects this. She is able to fight in heavy obstructions to eyesight or intense darkness by hearing alone. She can hear things such as a person's footsteps or a weapon moving against the ground or through the air, and her mind can interpret the sounds similar to how her mind would interpret light, which allows her to gauge the distance between her and her targets. With her eyes closed, this becomes even more accurate, allowing her to hear even a person's breathing if she is close enough to them, or discern the size and depth of things. Conversely, she is also very silent herself, a product of both training and simply life. In more ways than one, her father taught her that it was better for her to be seen and not heard. ► Special- || Genjutsu || - When it comes to Genjutsu, Chigetsu boasts great talent. While her splendid chakra control does play a role in this, her intelligence is what really makes her so formidable. She has a rather intricate knowledge of the mind and how Genjutsu affects it, so she is able to produce devastating effects by stimulating much more of the bran than the average shinobi, such that she can even take techniques that would normally be harmless and make them more potent than what they would normally be. Even low ranking techniques gain tangible difficulty under her prowess. Currently, she is studying up on the temporal lobe and the ways that it can be manipulated. - || Hydrification Technique || - Unlike most Hōzuki, the Hydrification Technique was almost literally drilled into Chigetsu by her father as if it were a rite-of-passage. She learned the technique by the age of four, mastered it in the same year, and developed an expansion of it the year after, all of which was forced upon her. At this point in her life, Chigetsu is able to manifest a corrosive substance whenever she utilizes the Hydrification Technique, one that is able to eat through various forms of matter; and she considers it her pride, for the only time that her father truly acknowledged her was when she accomplished this—she has been perfecting it ever since. The substance is fast acting on organic matter, able to eat through such material in about a half minute depending of the size (however, unlike poisons it doesn't spread). For matter that isn't organic, it takes about fifty or so seconds longer. The one thing that can resist the substance to the extent that it appears to null it are purified metals such as Titanium, which increase the corrosion speed (the inorganic speed) at least five times over. The acid can also be washed away with water rather easily. By combining with water, it is also possible for Chigetsu to mass produce these effects in any water source. Aside from herself, her clams are the only creatures immune to the substance, which is due to a special technique that they created solely to counteract the substance.
