I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
"Kakuzu-chan! Table five needs refreshments!" A female voice rang out followed by hurried footsteps and the sound of clanking glasses. "Got it." The tavern certainly was lively tonight. Mercenaries of all sorts where gathered here celebrating some sort of victory over some sort of beast that had been slain recently in the near by forest. In fact, the cook had decided to use the meat from the beast that had been slain in order to prepare a feast, and since the mercenaries did all of the work of killing it and bringing it in, it was on the house. Well at least the meat was. Anything else was still charged.
The rumor of the feast spread through town quickly, and eventually drew in a large crowd which resulted in the server and the bartender having to run around like chickens with their heads cut off in order to attend to everyone's needs. "Kakuzu-chan! I need your help over here! This box is too heavy!" Glasses clanked together in some sort of toast as the bounty hunter, now bar tender, ran over to assist his associate. Soon he hefted the large crate of mixed assortments of fruits over his shoulder like it was nothing before setting it down on a rare empty counter space. His associate then set to rummaging through it and distributing the contents in order of item to the highest bidder.
There she went again, with her impromptu auctions. Ah well, who was Kakuzu to judge?
His shift ran late into the night this time, and by the time they finally managed to get everyone out of the restaurant area and either out the door or in some rooms upstairs, it was nearly two in the morning. When Kakuzu finally stacked the last chair upside down on a table he let out an exasperated sigh, placed his fists on either side of his lower back, and leaned back cracking his spine. "I'm glad you were here tonight Kakuzu-chan. I don't know what we would have done without your help." Kakuzu laughed at this remark, "I do. You would have probably seduced some boy on the street to come in and do your dirty work." The cook, now leaning against the bar, broke out laughing. "He has you pegged there Hime-chan." The woman, turning bright red, yelled at the two of them to shut up which caused the men to break down laughing even harder.
A few minutes later, they all settled down and headed upstairs. At the top of the stairs they would then all part ways, the cook going down the right hallway and the waitress down the left. Kakuzu, however, ascended another flight of stairs to the third floor where he would find his room at the end of the hallway and the young nukenin recovering inside. He shut the door quietly behind himself before locking the door once more. Afterwards he would undress his upper most layer of clothing. That being the dressy shirt, and his boots. This would remain him wearing a black tank top and loose fitting trousers.
Walking lightly on the floor, careful not to awaken his partner if she were slumbering, he moved towards the second, empty, bed before sitting on the edge of it. He sat facing away from his partner, looking out the window at the crescent shaped moon. It was a beautiful night. It was quiet. He could hear everything around him. Even the faint breathing of his partner. Breathing that told him, she was indeed awake. "Sorry about the noise. Were you able to sleep at all," he asked her without even bothering to turn around as he reached up to let his long ebony tresses out of the high pony tail he had tethered them back into.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] Hold your hands into the sky Pray for mercy, instead of time Low budget movies, change our low budget lives There's something to corsets and horror that joins our lonesome minds And these bloody faces with their bloody knives Say if we ever make it We'll be so bloody tired of these times Hold your hands into the sky You are the massacre, the masochist, the tease And you're captivating , standing in front of me Tera laid in her bed and stared at the ceiling, arms folded behind her head. She had given up on sleep already, having tossed and turned and done everything but get some sleep since her head had touched the pillow. Well, that wasn't actually true - she had fallen asleep once, for a period of time that couldn't have been more than half an hour, and had woken, whimpering, from a violent, bloody nightmare. After that she had made an honest effort to get some more rest, but had just ended up displacing all the sheets and whatnot, a sense of restlessness quickly coming over her.
It was boring, to say the least, to sit there and watch the ceiling, but she also didn't feel like doing anything else. Tera figured that going downstairs into the tavern would be a horrible idea. Not only because she was still recovering, or because she was so shy she'd end up practically hiding in a corner and watching Kakuzu work and not doing anything else, but because she was a little afraid of what might happen. Some guy, drunk or sober, would make his way over to her and start hitting on her and trying to touch her inappropriately, and she didn't doubt that if Kakuzu saw it, he'd probably kill the poor guy. He was quite protective of her, which was kind of sweet; but it was also bad for everyone else's health. One didn't tend to recover when someone ripped their heart out of their chest.
She had found a few sheets of blank paper - not produced with her Shikigami no Mai - and tried several times to make an origami flower, but the end result each time had been nothing but a big mess of crumpled paper. Tera had quickly grown tired of failing and wasting paper and had tossed the sheets away and crawled back into bed. Every so often, she would lean over to get her glass of water and take a sip, but other than that, she was almost completely still - hoping, of course, that that would perhaps aid her in her attempt to sleep. It did not.
It seemed she couldn't keep her mind off of the incident, or the nightmare she had had about it, for very long. Whenever she closed her eyes, she saw the scene playing out in her mind's eye - not as it had actually occurred, but how it had happened in her nightmare, where she had been both inside her own body and outside of it at the same time. The pain, the terror, the blood... They had all seemed so real, and the occurrence had definitely shaken her up again.
It wasn't long before silent tears began to slide slowly down her pale cheeks. She wiped them off, but they just kept falling, falling, falling. And Tera cried, for what felt like the millionth time in the week or so they had been in the mercenary village. Every time she cried, she felt so - small. Pathetic. Worthless. Shinobi weren't supposed to be emotional, she had had that rule ruthlessly drilled into her head from day one. It was the one rule she had never been able to follow, not even when her father had tried to beat the feelings out of her - quite literally. And Kakuzu was so - so composed, all the time, it just made her feel worse. But she never told him - how could she? It would be so rude.
Tera heard the door open, and tried to wipe the traces of her tears off her face, with little success. The moment he looked at her, he would be able to tell that she had been crying yet again. "Not at all. But it wasn't because of the noise..." she trailed off, wondering whether she should even tell him about the nightmare. Probably not, she decided - she didn't want him to worry about it. Not that she thought he would, but...
She slid out of the bed, moved over to the one he was sitting on, and put her arms around him from behind. The woman had become quite affectionate towards Kakuzu over the past couple of days, for a reason she couldn't really explain. She couldn't explain much of anything she was feeling anymore, to be honest. WORDS: seven hundred thirty-four TAGS: kakuzu NOTES: - - - LYRICS: the tease by evans blueCREDIT: akemi of btn |

I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
It was only natural that the trauma would still be affecting her, Kakuzu thought. People didn't recover from that kind of thing in a short amount of him. Hell when Kakuzu gain his Earth Grudge Fear, or so his banker dubbed it, he had been traumatized for several weeks himself. The feeling of millions of tiny little things writhing within your body. It was unnerving. Especially since you felt you couldn't control yourself anymore. Hell he still didn't feel all like his body always listened to him.
When he heard the creak of her bed, he knew immediately that she must've gotten up. Turning where he sat to look at her, he saw her climb over 'his' bed and felt her embrace as she put her arms around him. It felt odd, to say the least, that someone would show any sort of affection towards him, however, he kind of appreciated it. The two had become some what of good friends in the past couple weeks that they had been together. Perhaps because they had both saved the other's life at some point. Kakuzu had to admit. He was happy he met her.
He broke off her embrace with as little force as necessary before he grasped her tenderly and gently pulled her with him as he re-positioned himself to lean against the wall while sitting on the bed. From there he would hold her in a sort of embrace that would allow her maximum comfort so as to not strain any of her wounds from the weeks before. "Sorry... Tera... If only I had been able to get there sooner." He felt like it was his fault. Like, even though Tera had already told him it was, that his debt was still unpaid. He felt horrible for not being able to save the child. He hated it all. Hated himself, and it just made him feel like he wanted to cry. However, he wouldn't, or rather he couldn't. Not in front of anyone anyway. Especially not in front of Tera. He didn't want her worrying about him when he only wanted to worry about her.
Was this... what they called love? He couldn't know.
He was sixty-one with a body untouched by time since his lower thirties, and he still never experienced the emotion.
Love... just what was it?
"You wouldn't have had to have gone through all of that." He pulled her close to him resting his cheek on top of her soft ivory tresses, "I could have protected you." Shit, his hands were trembling. He couldn't control himself. What the hell was wrong with him? It wasn't really possible that he of all people, he whom has cut off all ties with the world, actually still had emotions? If so, why show them now? Was this the effect this woman had on him? Was it her fault he couldn't control himself. Dammit all. He wanted to cry so bad.
Don't cry dammit.
"Tera... Do you hate me?" Shit, what was he saying? God dammit body stop acting on your own! "For not being there sooner? Or rather, for saving your life at all?" What the fuck is wrong with him? Why couldn't he shut up? Why couldn't he just let her use him for comfort? Just what was it that she had become to him? A little sister? No it was more deep than that... wasn't it? He didn't fucking know, but he couldn't wholly break down. No. Not in front of her. Not when she needed the consoling.
So why?

That wasn't something just anyone would say about one of the most fearsome rogue shinobi in the world - but, now that she had spent time with him, that wasn't what he was to her. He had become... something else. Something that she couldn't exactly rationalize or even put into words. His presence made her feel safe. His embrace made her feel... loved. For the first time in a very long time - or ever, really. Tera snuggled into him, resting her head on his shoulder. Not only was he comfortable, but all this just felt - natural. Right, somehow.
"It's not your fault, Kakuzu." she murmured, casting him a surprised glance when he spoke. "It's my fault. All mine. If - if I hadn't - " She couldn't bring herself to say the words, if she hadn't had sex with a complete stranger, but she figured her would get the gist of that. "Then none of this would have happened. I wouldn't have been.. pregnant. I wouldn't have been in Fire Country. And even if I had been attacked, there wouldn't have been anything for me to lose." She didn't tell him that a tiny part of her, a part she had tried and failed to quash completely, was glad that the child had died. It meant she didn't have to make the decision about whether it lived or died, didn't have to give birth, didn't have to become a mother so long before she would feel ready for something like that. She could never admit that, never say that she was such a coward that she might not have changed that event even if she could. And that made her feel even worse.
Tera didn't know what to say anymore. She and Kakuzu had practically been strangers when he had saved her - had they really grown so close that he truly desired to protect her? That he would willingly put himself in danger again for someone like her? Her tears made another appearance, welling up in the corners of her eyes, spilling over and pouring down her cheeks.
Her eyes widened when he spoke again. "No, Kakuzu, no. I-I could never hate you. Don't ever think that. It's not you that I hate." It was herself that she hated, for everything. She was the one at fault, the one who held all the blame for what had happened to her. How could he ever think that she hated him? Kakuzu had never been anything but kind to her, when she didn't even deserve it.
Would she rather have died there, alone and unforgiven? No. No, despite how she felt, Tera couldn't say that. If she had died - she never would have gotten to know him. WORDS: four hundred seventy-seven TAGS: kakuzu NOTES: - - - LYRICS: the tease by evans blueCREDIT: akemi of btn |

I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
He could feel her tears cascade down upon his chest. He knew she was sad, truly sad, and not just putting on some sort of facade. He knew she was torn. Still he couldn't bring himself to believe her. Her fault? "Don't be an idiot Tera." He could feel a sort of sting in his eyes, a sting he had not felt in a very long time and soon his own cheeks became wet with tears. God dammit. "Fate has a mysterious way of working." What was he saying? Where was this coming from? "Nothing is your fault." He pulled her a bit closer to him, a bit snugger. Why was he being so emotional? Was this decades' worth of pent up emotion?
"I- I'm glad, and yet... I'm so frustrated." His voice was becoming shaky. Since they had met again a couple of weeks ago, Kakuzu had found himself soon become quite attached to Tera. She was so innocent. Kind. Caring. Not to mention over a year ago she saved him from certain death. He who was, no IS, the most notorious criminal in this damn world. Well, somewhat known criminal. She saved him, and he was deeply grateful. He quickly discovered she had a strong dislike for killing. She was more suited for protecting, or perhaps, for healing. She had a kind heart. She was oh so innocent. He envied that about her, and he also loved it. Let's just say, it didn't take long for Kakuzu to start opening up to her.
He told her his real name. He allowed her to call him Kohaku if she so wished. Only people close to him ever got the privilege. It meant he cared for her. He wanted to be with her. To protect her.
Yet he was torn.
He knew that if she remained with him that his presence would put her in grave danger. Almost everyone in this god damn world was after his head. They desired the bounty that had been placed on it. He didn't blame them for it. He would have hunted himself down if he could. After all money can get you a lot of things. However, he also knew he needed to stay with her. He knew her own bounty was high. People would not ignore that. They would soon come after her, if not him, and she wouldn't, or rather, couldn't kill. She didn't have the guts to.
He wanted to stay there; to never let her go.
Silence would fall between them before long. Kakuzu had run out of words to say, and merely wanted to cry at this point. He would remain like this for a long time as well. Sitting there, holding her close to him, and letting the tears streak down his cheeks. However after a long time Kakuzu finally stirred. Finally wiped the tears away from his eyes. Finally spoke, "Tera-chan..." However his next action surprised even him. He pulled her closer to him, pulling her up into his lap. He raised her chin, and leaned into her closing his eyes as he locked his lips with her own.
What the hell was wrong with him?

That she couldn't find the words to say, couldn't bear to argue with him.
He pulled her even closer, and Tera managed to call up a shaky smile. Kakuzu wanted her to stop blaming herself - but she couldn't, not when she knew she was at fault. He wanted her to find at least a measure of happiness, of peace, to recover from the emotional trauma. It wasn't possible - wasn't something she could do - not even for him. But Tera loved him for caring, for being the only person that cared whether she lived or died. She loved him for seeing her as someone worthy of his time, of his protection. She loved him for shedding tears over her plight. Tera loved him.
She loved him.
The realization was sudden - shocking - and even more so because she had never thought she would know what love felt like. But she had found it in the most unexpected of places. And while she couldn't define it, couldn't describe the way her heart leaped when he drew her close, couldn't even begin to speak of how she cared for him - she knew. And she didn't know what to think.
The silence between them seemed to last an eternity. Tea felt truly at home there in his arms, cradled by him - by the man she loved. It felt like her realization had changed everything, but it hadn't changed anything at all, had it? She had just finally admitted something she had known for a while.
"..Kohaku-kun?" He had told her she was allowed to call him that - a privilege afforded to very few - but in truth, she had never felt comfortable calling him anything but Kakuzu. He had opened up and let her in, just a little, and she saw some of who he really was, and her heart had never stood a chance.
For a long moment, Tera didn't know what to do when he captured her lips with his own. And then she melted into the kiss, a kiss full of love, the likes of which she had never had before. The man that had taken her virginity had also taken her first kiss - but his kisses hadn't been like this. They had been rough, lusty, passionate - and this was gentle and loving and sweet and she never, ever, wanted it to end. I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
It wasn't her fault. He was convinced that she was a fool for thinking so. He fool that he cared for. Did that make him a fool too? If so he didn't care. He wanted to protect her. Felt like it was his duty to protect her. Felt like her duty left in this world was to keep him in a loop of sanity, and if he released her, he would not only lose her but lose himself. "Kohaku-kun" Ah her voice. So refreshing like a dew drop that fell onto his cheek from the high up leaves in the tree tops of the most luscious forest. So sweet like fresh honey. So wonderful. He loved that voice. It made his heart pound. It made his hands tremble. It made him want her even more. Want to make her happy. Want to make her confident in herself. He held her there for a long time with their lips locked together. About a few moments into the kiss, his body seemed to move on its own. He deepened their kiss even further. It was a loving kiss. A kiss he had never experienced before. Then again, it was also, believe it or not, his own first kiss. He had never loved anyone before. He had cared for, but not love. Was this really love? Or was it something else? It felt like long eons had passed as the clock slowly ticked away the seconds remaining in the night. Tick. Tock. After probably about five minutes into the embrace of lips, the bounty hunter finally pulled away from her. His chest was pounding and he couldn't tell if it was just his main heart or all of them that seemed to want to burst. His breath was short. His eyes were still filled to the spilling point with tears, but he quickly wiped them away. He just wanted to remain there for a while. Wanted to hold her close. "Tera..." His heart seemed to skip a beat when he said her name, "Please..." Dammit it was hard to talk, "Let me stay like this..." Hunh? "For a while."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] Hold your hands into the sky Pray for mercy, instead of time Low budget movies, change our low budget lives There's something to corsets and horror that joins our lonesome minds And these bloody faces with their bloody knives Say if we ever make it We'll be so bloody tired of these times Hold your hands into the sky You are the massacre, the masochist, the tease And you're captivating , standing in front of me At first, Tera had been thinking about how nice the kiss was, how sweet, and loving, and gentle. She had been thinking about how love popped up in the strangest places and from the people you would lead expect - like, for instance, a man that was literally three times her age, that killed people for a living (perhaps that part wasn't all that strange, considering), a man that she hadn't thought could care that much about anyone, let alone her.
But then Kakuzu deepened the kiss and any hope of coherent thought flew right out the window. Her mind was consumed by him - his presence, the heat of his body against hers, the way he felt, him, and it was wonderful. It was a moment that Tera wished could last forever, this moment of perfect peace, of harmony between them, this moment of pure love that had shocked her to the very core.
But alas, all things must come to an end, they say. And though it took a while for their sweet moment to end, eventually, it did, leaving her short of breath with her head spinning.
Tera leaned into him, pressing as close to him as she possibly could. "Kohaku-kun." she murmured, nuzzling his neck contentedly. "Forever, if you want."
Of course, she knew it wasn't possible for them to stay curled up together forever. But she meant it in... somewhat of a different sense. A sense that she found rather hard to explain, even to herself. She meant that they could have this - this easy peace, this comfort, this love - for as long as he wanted to share it with her. Tera had no doubt that a lot of his affection stemmed from pity, pity that would fade away once he figured out that she was a spineless coward and not just terrible at fighting. Why would he ever want to drag her around unless he had to?
Her love for him - now, that was something she was sure wouldn't fade, if only to make it harder on her when Kakuzu decided he didn't want any useless baggage trailing along after him.
That thought soured her joy, just a little. Of course. Tera couldn't be happy for any real length of time, could she? A few tears slid from her eyes again. The tiny little part of her that was optimistic said that this would last forever. But the rest said that something this good could never last. I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
At her allowance he remained there for a long time resting his head on top her's somewhat in their embrace rather comfortably. It had been a long time since he had closed his eyes, probably since he had strangely pulled their lips together into their own sort of embrace, and by now, if she was listening, she could probably hear his breathing slowly becoming much more slow, and much more steady rather than the broken up sobs it had been suggesting he may possibly be or already have fallen asleep. Who could blame the man? He had worked a long day. However, he was not asleep, not yet anyway, and only one key clue gave this away. He moved one of his hands, his right one specifically, over her body. Not in any sense of a way to be overly perverted, but in a gentle manner as he slipped his fingers between the layer of cloth that draped over her torso. Then he seemed to become a little bit more assertive, even in his rather sleepy state. He hooked a finger under a bandage that covered her marred stomach and with a gentle pull, tugged it away from her flesh causing the rest covering the area to slowly unravel. As the rest slowly cascaded down around her sides he would allow his fingers to lightly trace over her marred flesh. More specifically over the stitched together pieces and the stitches. "I'm amazed," he whispered into her ear, "You're healing quite beautifully." He moved his hand across her stomach and gently grasped her around the hip. As he did this his other hand worked to pull her into another embrace of their lips. Gently, carefully, lovingly, he caressed her. He couldn't explain this feeling the washed over him, but, he didn't want it to end. He wanted to be there with her. Perhaps to the bitter end. But why? Why did he feel like this towards a person whom was practically a stranger to him? Was it because he could see the innocence hidden within her personality? Was it because he felt like she wouldn't betray him? Did he really trust her, a stranger? Could he ever truly trust anyone? "Why?" He held his profusely bleeding shoulder in confusion. His emerald eyes were trained on the elder man before him. His words were still echoing in his head. "Why would you have me... Disposed of!?" Was this man really going to order that he be ended here and now? Was he going to incarcerate him? Either way, it seemed he intended to end his life as it was. Shatter everything.
"You are a broken tool." He was taken aback by this. "We have no uses for a broken tool, and therefore, you must be thrown away. Destroyed." What was he saying? He was their Captain. He worked solely for their purpose. WHY!?
"You...." Then he gave the order. Had his men try to capture him, or even worse, behead him right then and there. "You...." They came in close, and while it was all in mere instants, it seemed as though time had slowed down. "YOU BASTARD!" He lashed out. They, the people he had trusted his entire life, had betrayed him. "Tera-chan," he has pulled away from their kiss and seemed a bit more awake at this point. Only a bit though. "Do you trust me?" She seemed to trust him at least enough to be there with him, kissing him, embracing him, and yet she knew how dangerous he was, however, could she really, truly, trust him? He was a murderer. At least in the eyes of many. Even his own. But he did it to survive. That's what he told himself. He had to survive, and that meant anything. But what if in order to survive he had to kill her? Would he be able to bring himself to do it?

She didn't manage to actually fall asleep, despite her need for rest. No, she merely drifted, her mind meandering around myriad paths concerning just about anything she could think of that didn't involve her. Thus, she didn't notice that Kakuzu had also begun to doze - if she had noticed, it would have made her smile, because she was sure that the rogue didn't often fall asleep even in the same room with someone else, let alone with a woman on his lap, regardless of how timid and harmless she was.
It took her a long moment to realize that he'd slipped his hand in under the bandages wrapped around her stomach and neatly unwrapped them. That was what woke her from her daze, albeit only slightly, and with a hint of crimson to her cheeks. Tera knew that he wasn't trying to feel her up or anything - not that she would have stopped him if he was, a thought that only darkened the blush - but she didn't like looking at the scars and the stitches that marred her there. There was a reason she covered up her scars. They were nothing but terrible reminders of events that left her depressed and upset and a million different things, none of which were good. Of course, this particular set had saved her life - but her opinion on her own life had been made clear.
She shivered as he traced the marks, uncertain of how to respond to what he said, or whether to say anything at all. Thankfully, she didn't have to decide - because he kissed her again. "Mm." This kiss wasn't quite as mind-blowing as the first, but that was probably because she was half asleep, and couldn't really focus on it. No, her mind was wandering back to her past. Back to the first wounds inflicted and the scars they caused. You're nothing to me if you fail, he had said. You're nothing but a broken tool, one that can't be fixed. She still didn't understand why he had to hurt her. I should kill you before someone else does.
He broke the kiss, and spoke again. Tera looked into his eyes for a long moment, at first uncertain. Did she trust him, really, truly, completely trust him? She didn't even know if she could trust someone that wholly, but.. "I do." she murmured, cupping his face in her hands and initiating another kiss - short, sweet, and chaste. "I trust you. Completely." WORDS: four hundred forty-eight TAGS: kakuzu NOTES: - - - LYRICS: the tease by evans blueCREDIT: akemi of btn |

I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
Did she really? She was a fool. But if she really trusted him, then, couldn't he trust her? Don't open yourself up to get hurt. He cared for her, more than he cared for anyone ever before. She's an unnecessary weakness. Get rid of her. No he couldn't. He couldn't just abandon her. She's too innocent. She'll just weigh you down. Myriad thoughts raced through his mind in the agonizingly quiet moments that soon followed suit after she answered him. Why did she trust him? Was it because he had saved her life? Was it something else? Wouldn't she just become a burden to him if he let her stay with him? He couldn't let that happen. He couldn't let her become a burden. Why not? Because.... Because... He didn't want her to get hurt ever again. Not by anyone. Especially not by himself. Then part ways with her. She can take care of herself. "No," his thoughts were becoming so erradic, so invasive that the hunter began thinking out loud to himself as the myriad within his head became like an angry swarm of bees. "I can't," He pulled his arms a bit tighter around her. Can't what? Let go of that damn dead weight? "I can't."Everything you have done was to survive. "I have lived a long life."Are you saying, you'll die for her? "And if I would?"You fool. You can't even trust yourself. Do you think you can trust her? "I can't trust myself, but...."DON'T GIVE ME THIS CRAP! STAYING WITH HER IS SUICIDE! "Tera-chan, you can trust me enough for the both of us... right," He asked her so suddenly after the words he had uttered to himself in what may have seemed pure randomness. Tears were once more streaking down his cheeks, and with her pressed so closely against his chest, she would likely feel it. The throbbing of his heart. "I'm sorry.... I'm such an idiot," words of doubt, long since buried within him were finally rising to the surface, "I'm a traitor, but not by choice," it was true. He wanted to survive, and because of that he was branded a traitor to his people, "I don't want to kill all the time, but I have to survive," his voice was low, in both tone and volume, and it wavered greatly. "Now, I think I've fallen for someone, that I know nothing about," at these last world Kakuzu tightened his grasp around her in one last embrace before he released her, only this time he moved her to laying on her back on his bed while he laid beside her propping himself up with his left arm. "I'm a fool that will likely get himself killed sometime in the not so distant future." He leaned in close to her and hovered just above her for a long moment before at long last pulling her into a long, deep, kiss. When he finally did pull away from her he let out a long, tired, sigh. Almost immediately after he did he seemed to become a bit flustered and quickly rolled away from her ending up stopping just when he ended up on his side so that he faced away from her. "Sorry," when he had become flustered he had discovered that during their kiss his right hand had been acting on his most intense desires and had slipped down a bit further, even between the folds of clothing and flesh. He didn't want to act on those desires. Not yet anyway, and yet, his body betrayed his emotion. God dammit. "Tera, um..." What the hell? Just say it. You've never been this nervous when asking a random question before, so why now. WHY WITH HER!? "Why is it, that someone like you became a rogue?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] Hold your hands into the sky Pray for mercy, instead of time Low budget movies, change our low budget lives There's something to corsets and horror that joins our lonesome minds And these bloody faces with their bloody knives Say if we ever make it We'll be so bloody tired of these times Hold your hands into the sky You are the massacre, the masochist, the tease And you're captivating , standing in front of me "Hm?" After a few minutes of quiet, Kakuzu had suddenly spoken - but he wasn't making much sense. No to what? Was he saying that she shouldn't trust him? Well, she knew that... Hardly anyone would be willing to trust him, and for good reason. But she did. Perhaps that made her a fool, and so what if it did? She would rather be a happy fool than dead.
Soon enough, she realized that he was talking to himself aloud. That was a little odd, to say the least, but that was no matter. Whatever he was discussing with himself seemed important, so she just snuggled into him and listened to his voice, figuring that he'd stop having a verbally one-sided conversation eventually. And that he did. "Of course." Was that why her trust was so important to him? Because he couldn't even bear to trust himself? Tera knew what that was like.
Now he was the one crying, and she the one offering comfort, wiping the tears from his face and stroking his silky black hair. Tera had never heard his story - well, his side of it, anyway - and she had just kind of assumed that he had betrayed his village for some typical nukenin reason, considering that he had become a bounty hunter and definitely wasn't opposed to killing like she was. She didn't expect to hear that he, too, was a traitor of circumstance.
That little blush made a return as he admitted aloud that he had fallen for her, like she had fallen for him. But Tera would never understand why. Perhaps he could never exactly have his pick of all the women he came across, due to his age and the stitches that some might've considered grotesque, but he certainly didn't have to settle for someone like her. But from wherever his love stemmed, be it pity or something else entirely, she was grateful to have it.
He moved her from her position curled up in his lap, to laying flat on the bed beside him. "You're not a fool." she murmured quietly as he leaned in and brought their lips together again. Her blush darkened as his hand moved down her body. Did he intend to take it further than kisses already? She was a little scared of.. of getting that intimate with someone again, so soon after the incident. He pulled away, turned his back to her, and apologized. "There's no need to be sorry, Kohaku-kun." Even though she was nervous and scared, if that was what he wanted, she would gladly give it to him. "And... as long as I'm here, I won't let you die. I promise." That heart of his, that cared so deeply for her, would never cease to beat. She would make sure of it.
"I never wanted this life. i was never given the choice, really." She hated speaking of her past, but he had asked, and she wouldn't just refuse to tell him. "When I was a little girl, my father stole some of our village's most important scrolls. He dragged me out of the village with him. At the time I didn't understand what he had done. I just knew that he was my father and I was supposed to listen to him, so I did."
She took a deep, shaky breath. "I held out the hope that I'd be able to return home, but we learned of the destruction of Amegakure at the hands of the bijuu shortly after it occurred. After that, he pushed me harder in training than he ever had before. I think... he still loved the village, and my mother and brother, and wanted to try and fight the bijuu. He was... crazy. The first time he made me kill, I nearly died, a-and... He tortured me. Not just a beating. I was used to that by then. But actual torture. That's where I got all my scars. He said I w-was useless, a b-broken tool, that he should kill me before someone else got the chance." she explained, arms wrapped around her midsection, hugging herself tightly. Tera had tried to hold back her tears, but to no avail.
"He d-died a few years ago. I didn't know what to do. I-I didn't want to keep living this way, but there wasn't anything I could do about it by then." WORDS: seven hundred fifty-six TAGS: kakuzu NOTES: - - - LYRICS: the tease by evans blueCREDIT: akemi of btn |

I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
His eyes widened when he heard her words. She wouldn't let him die? Did she really care for him that much? Did she feel that same as he did? It wasn't really possible, was it? What right did he have in stealing the heart of someone so young? "Amegakure no Sato." He remembered having heard to rumor of its demise. it was about twelve years ago now that it had happened. So that was where she was from. And... She wasn't a nukenin by choice either.
So innocent.
"Tch. I don't get it." His right hand balled up into a fist, "You didn't do anything wrong..." His voice was becoming filled with anger, "God Dammit!" He slammed his left fist into the bed sheets in front of him, "This world is filled with so many bastards that just take advantage of everything. Of everyone." He sat up now letting his legs hang off the edge of the bed, "People like that I hate the most. They all deserve to perish in hell flam-" he stopped suddenly as he turned his head and body enough to look at Tera. Almost immediately he seemed to calm down to some degree.
"Sorry." He took a deep breath attempting to quell his anger. The deep inhalation didn't help him calm down so much as allow him to hide it beneath a layer of calm, and once that was done he turned away again and leaned his arms on his legs, "Like you I was born in a smaller village." She hadn't asked, but Kakuzu felt that since he had asked her, he might as well as let her know something about him. "Takigakure no Kuni. Where I grew up shunned by everyone for my anger outbursts and even aspired to be a shinobi." He reached up and rubbed the back of his neck, "Well I managed to become a shinobi fine enough. Heck I one day even became the Captain of my village's ANBU force, however..." his tone suddenly turned more solemn, "One day we got a request from some unknown person. An assassination, the target: the shodai Hokage." He turned around and crawled across the bed to her where he then laid next to her, "My men were quickly slaughtered like swine, and I would have died too had I not be smart enough to escape when I saw the opportunity." he took a deep breath that quickly turned into a sigh, "When I returned, with my mission being a failure, I was not welcomed back. In fact my elders ordered my disposal, saying they had no use for a broken tool. Right as they were about to end my life, I snapped. I realized I didn't want to die, and lashed out." He reached up, placing a hand on her stomach and once again tracing the stitches, "I killed them all, and fled with the village's secret technique. Then... two years later... I was like this."
He let his hand fall back onto the bed as he closed his eyes, "I fight to survive. I usually kill only when they strike first or if they have committed wrong themselves. I hunt bounties so I can purge the world of wrongful exsistances and to gain money so I can live a decent life." He brought himself closer to her if only by a small margin, "However I never thought I would be saying this, Tera." He reached up to stroke her cheek ever so gently, "Thank you." It was a simple phrase that had so much meaning behind it. Thank You.
Thank you for saving my life a year ago.
Thank you for keeping your promise.
Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you for being born.

He had been there when she needed him - he was still here with her, and he wasn't going to leave - and she was definitely going to be there each and every time he needed her, no matter what. Even if he came to his senses and stopped loving her, she would still be there for him.
Amegakure no Sato. That had been her only true home, and it was a home she didn't even remember. A home she hadn't seen since its destruction twelve years ago. "I don't even remember what it looked like. Not very well. A-and I don't remember their faces." she admitted quietly. She hadn't even been that young when she'd left the village, but for years and years her only thoughts had been about how to please her father. She hadn't though of her mother or Koji in so long... Honestly, she was surprised she remembered their names. What would it be like for Kakuzu, who probably hadn't seen his village in decades? She couldn't even begin to imagine it.
Tera was sitting up, legs crossed, watching him warily. His building anger did scare her. Even though she knew, logically, that he wasn't mad because of anything she had done, she still flinched when he swore and slammed his fist into the bed. It had been a few years since she'd been hit - excepting fights, obviously, but that wasn't that type of hitting that concerned her - but she was still so cowed that anytime a person raised their fist, she retreated within herself, waiting for the bruising that was sure to come.
He stopped and looked at Tera, as if he had just realized what kind of effect his anger might have on her, and he apologized. A much better reaction than noticing her behavior and berating her for it, or, worse deciding to hit her just because she expected it. If a man like this could retrain his anger, avoid taking it out on her... then what had that made her father? A monster? She didn't know, and, she decided, she didn't want to know.
So he was also from a minor village. Takigakure, the village hidden in waterfalls. She had heard that it was, actually, hidden, and that the waterfalls surrounding it were beautiful. Tera had always wanted to see their waterfalls, but had never had the opportunity.
And his village had denounced him as worthless. They had torn down everything he had accomplished. They had viewed him as a broken tool because he had valued his own life enough to protect it. He didn't deserve that, any of it. She didn't blame him for lashing out. Who could?
Now that he had explained his past, and why he did what he did, Tera thought she might love him even more. He was a man living in a world that wronged him, doing his best to get by without hurting innocent people. Just like she was.

I aint gonna play the fool anymore
Shadows of nothing
When she returned his thanks Kakuzu seemed to stop processing all together. He looked up at Tera from the corner of his eye and fell deathly silent. For moments he remained like this before abruptly breaking out laughing. His eyes shut as he broke down and his body seemed to heave as it searched for air. He laughed and laughed until he couldn't laugh anymore. Then, he pressed his palms against the mattress of the bed and propped himself up so he was at eye height with Amaterasu. Afterwards he moved one of his arms around her, hooking her around the back and pulling her close to him, close enough to gently press their foreheads together.
"You seem to know how to make me happy... Amaterasu," he punctuated every character in her name as he stifled a small chuckle and then, pressed his lips against her's for a long, deep, kiss. In their kiss, he brought his arms up around her and pressed her body a bit against his own for several long moments before he would bring her down back to laying on the bed with him. When at long last he broke their kiss, Kakuzu spoke once more, "I'm not entirely sure what love is, however..." He kissed her forehead, "I'm certain I can figure it out, if you'll let me." Then afterwards he seemed to settle down. He settled onto the bed next to her and laid there staring into her amber eyes. He seemed to be rather content just laying there, almost as if her mere presence was more than enough for him to get drunk off of.
Then, slowly, but surely, he drifted off. His thoughts became hazy, and his eye lids grew heavy. Before Kakuzu would even realize it, he would fall asleep. Awaiting him, for now, were sweet dreams of a possible, yet fictional, future together.
