Here are the respective ranks for shinobi, detailing what they're jobs and various other information. Genin: Low Shinobi in the ranking class, they make up our future work-force, so they train very well to reach as high as they can, if they can reach any far beyond their current level. - Rookie Genin: Just received their Hitai-ate and are now full-fledged shinobi. This stage, they are capable of showing what their potential are as shinobi, if they don't die too quickly.[Age 12]
- Genin: They've got a few missions under their belt, maybe enough experience to fight a Chunin, perhaps. [Age 13-14]
- Advanced Genin: They are Genin who got far more missions under their belt, mainly due to the fact they failed the chunin exams. However, they aren't failures...or are they? [Age 15-16]
Chūnin: Chūnin consist of the bulk of the shinobi society and possesses important roles within the village: - Chūnin Proctor: They tend to Academy Students and their learnings. Usually supervising various things around the village.
- Chūnin Guard: They are the visible Guards among the village, often acts as the police force and guard for the gates of their village to escort visitors in and out.
- Chūnin Task Force: They aren't stationary like the two listed above. They tend to be sent out on missions as support or leaders to support their village, also, the highest paid Chūnin Available in the village.
Tokubetsu Jōnin: Honestly, this is the only title you receieve, what you are proficient in that makes you so Special is your choice. Jōnin: Jōnin are the elite ninja. They are the elite shinobi of the village. They have worked hard throughout their shinobi lives to reach this prestigious rank. They are considerable abilitiy in all aspects of a ninja and usually go on the toughest missions or train the future generation, both of which are important tasks. - Rookie Jōnin: Freshly established in the ranks of Jōnin.
- Sensei: Sensei Jōnin are among the most respectable shinobi in the village because they nurture the future generation. They are usually leaders of a four man squad [1 Jōnin and 3 genin]. Teams established usually have bonds that transcend ranks and time.
- Head Jōnin: The Vice-President of the village, second only to the Kage. Their jobs are to oversee the less-important things of the village, such as building reconstruction, perhaps mission assigning, etc.
ANBU: The ANBU Black Ops [Special Assassination and Tactical Squad] are elite ninja that take orders directly under Kage. They are not picked due to previous rank or age but due to sheer skill and acceptance from the Kage. They perform high level missions and assassinations usually in varying size teams depending on the mission to ensure maximum success. They are the most elite form of shinobi force. - Squad Leader: The Squad leader is the leader of the squad, usually the most skilled and loyal shinobi in the ANBU, maybe even in the village. Squad Leaders wear white cloaks as opposed to their squad's black cloaks and usually act with the utmost loyalty to their village. This position is held in high regard.
- Hunter-Nin: Codenamed Undertaker Squad, this special branch in Kirigakure is solely for hunting down missing shinobi to dispose of their bodies so the village's secrets won't be distributed to enemy forces.
Kage: The Shadow that protects the village. They are the leaders of their respective villages and are usually the strongest shinobi in the village. They have grand power in the village and oversee all activities, usually sending out ninja teams out to missions and making the decisions regarding the safety of the village. They are the ultimate military force of the village and are highly respected. Only the Five Great Shinobi Villages have Kage and the title Kage is permanent, allowing for more than one kage at a time [although only one is usually active]. - Hokage: The Fire Shadow of the Leaf Village.
- Kazekage: The Wind Shadow of the Sand Village.
- Raikage: The Lightning Shadow of the Cloud Village.
- Tsuchikage: The Earth Shadow of the Rock Village.
- Mizukage: The Water Shadow of the Mist Village.
