[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]In the big moment of your life's conclusion, please allow my humble self to lend you a hand. He ran through the streets as fast as his body would let him run without full out sprinting or running into civilians that would likely not be able to dodge the rushing medic in time. Grasping a lamp post on a corner he took a sharp turn before continuing as fast as he could down the sand dusted pass. His heart was beating a mile a minute in his chest and each breath was like a thousand pin needles, but nonetheless he continued this pace all the way to his destination. Why was he running so fast? It was simple really... because lives were at stake. Normally Nazo wasn't one to care too much for the lives of others, in fact he was more likely to put down another shinobi on his team if all they became was a burden than any other person in suna. Nazo simply didn't care for life, but in a case such as this, his skills were required. Special cases like this one usually fascinated him. They always had strange twists and turns to them and Nazo could never tell which way the case might go. It was thrilling to watch things in odd cases such as this unfold, especially if you have a front row seat. Throwing the front doors to the hospital open Nazo finally slowed his speed down to a brisk walk. Not so much because running wasn't allowed inside a shinobi hospital, but more so because he was out of breath from running, dodging people, and running some more. Not to mention the place he had come from was clear on the other side of the desert doing research for who knows what. Immediately upon entering the hospital the mortician was greeted by a chuunin medical kunoichi whom took no time getting him to where he needed to go. Walking down several halls quite briskly, nearly bordering a jog, the kunoichi led Nazo to a large room strung with bed upon bed along each wall. Each bed was occupied with a patient except for a small few that remained open or were recently opened after being cleaned from when a patient passed. Through out the room Nazo's ears were assaulted with various sounds. Coughing, Hacking, Wheezing, Vomitting, Murmuring, Calls for IVs. So many different things were going on in the room with all the medics rushing around it was almost too much to take in. Almost. Nazo quickly wandered through the room taking a quick look at each of the patients' conditions. When at last he came to the last patient he finally found the person he had been looking for. A girl half his age with equally white hair as his own. A girl by the name of Nagase, Eri and was also known as the Head Medic. words;; 357. Suna's Head Medic was not a happy person right now. It seemed that all the cheer had been drained out of her by the long hours she'd been spending in the hospital. She felt like she hadn't seen the interior of her house in days, and that wasn't all that much of an exaggeration. Sometimes it was a pain in the butt to be the village's most talented medic. This was most definitely one of these times. The fact that people just kept dying despite her best efforts was even more draining than her sheer exhaustion. If there was one thing she truly hated, it was death - especially deaths that could have been prevented. She tried not to dwell on her more negative thoughts - like if she was a better medic, she would have been able to save them. Whatever this poison was, it was proving to be highly persistent. Everything she tried failed, and she had to watch each death take place and know that she had failed the patient. Eri was at the far end of the large room, scribbling notes on a medical chart - that of the most recent death, Kiyoshi Ueda. He had had a wife and three children; it would wound their hearts irreparably to learn that he had finally died. The medics that informed them would try to console the family, tell them that at least he wasn't suffering anymore, that he had gone to a better place, but they wouldn't buy into it. His place had been at home, telling his baby daughter stories, teaching his boys how to be shinobi, loving his wife. But now he was gone, and there was nothing anyone could do about it. "Have fun without you? I wouldn't dream of it, sempai." She put the clipboard down and turned to face the mortician, a tiny smile gracing her pale, tired face. "Is there something you need? Or have you come to help?" Eri would have loved to sit down and just talk with the man, who she considered as one of her only friends, but she simply didn't have the time.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]In the big moment of your life's conclusion, please allow my humble self to lend you a hand. It was quite thick, the stench of death in this room. As men succumbed to their wounds their bodies seemed to have soon begun decaying as they gave way to the acid and or poison erosion. While most sane shinobi and kunoichi would despise the scent of death the mortician quite well welcomed it. It was a daily come by for him at his shop just down the street and he had become quite used to its rather foul odor, however something was off this time. Something was different about this smell. It was more putrid and nauseating, almost as though what ever was causing the flesh to rot was releasing some sort of fume. Folding his arms across his chest the always immanent smile on his face faded away as he fell deep into thought about the mere scent. What could cause such a foul odor that he was not yet well used to? "I've been called in to assist you, however, something bothers me. Why does it already smell this foul in here? Certainly the vomit alone couldn't be causing it?" He scrunched his nose a bit, he didn't take well to this distinct foul odor. Stepping out away from the curtains the separated the area where the Head Medic was from the next cot, Nazo looked across the divider to the patient resting in that bed. Or at least he was trying to. The first thing the mortician noticed about him was that his wounds did not seem to actually bleed, or rather they hissed and bubbled. Furrowing his brow he took a few steps closer to the young man to investigate his wounds better. This certainly was odd. Never before had he seen a poison that could cause the wound to hiss and bubble in such a fashion as his was, and this patient was not alone, as it seemed many of the other patients, if not all of them, suffered from the same ailment. It couldn't be that they weren't bleeding because whatever this substance was was quite literally consuming their blood... could it? As preposterous as it sounded in his own mind, he could not scratch the possibility off his list. "Nagase-chan, may I see the corpses?" If he was right about this theory, than those corpses, the people that had already died from the effects of whatever was affecting them, would likely have his answer. words;; 389. "The odor is mostly caused by the wounds, as far as I can tell. Every patient we've received has had a similar scent, although not to this degree." she told him, watching as he observed the patient in the next bed over. The young man was a newer arrival; he had taken the place of a woman that had died around eighteen hours ago. Although he hadn't been ill as long as the others, the poison's devastating effects were no less evident. Not a single patient that had arrived since the poison had showed up had come in looking any better than he did. "Of course." Eri led him back through the room, agilely avoiding the harried medics that filled the place. It almost seemed like there were too many of them, making even the long corridor-like room crowded and claustrophobic. The horrible, fetid scents of sickness, death, and decay filled the air; it was enough to make anyone nauseous. The fact that she had been in this room for almost all of the time period it had been in use and still wasn't used to it said something about how sickening the smell really was. It was refreshing to get out, even if it was only for the short walk through a bright hallway and then down some stairs to the hospital's morgue, which was quickly becoming filled with corpses. "I trust you have some idea already?" Her smile was humorless. For all that her brilliant mind was supposed to be worth, she had come up blank more times than she cared to admit. This wasn't a poison she - or any other medic, apparently - had come across before. It didn't have a wide range of effects, and those effects - while sometimes similar - had never come up as exact matches for anything. She had hypothesized that it was a mixture of several different types that some dastardly person had concocted; it wasn't very likely, after all, that every patient had stumbled upon and touched or tasted the exact same poisonous plant, and that that plant had managed to evade discovery despite their efforts. Eri hadn't wanted to fool around with the poisons herself, however - she wasn't an expert like Nazo was, and she didn't want to end up creating something she really couldn't fix.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]In the big moment of your life's conclusion, please allow my humble self to lend you a hand. He couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for all of these people. Each and every one of them seemed to be in so much agony, and while that was understandable since many of their wounds were rather critical, they seemed to be in a lot more pain than they perhaps should be. Not only that but many of them were still conscious. That should have been impossible, seeing as when most people get a critical life threatening wound they soon pass out. As he continued to examine the wound of the man sitting on the cot he couldn't help but notice two marks on his leg just barely large enough to be noticeable. It looked as though something stabbed him in two places right next to each other, or better yet, perhaps something bit him. Interesting. Eri soon complied to his request and led the mortician out of the most putrid and stuffy room towards a brightly lit corridor. On their way across the room, Nazo had to mind himself to not get lost in thought unless he wanted to run right into medics left and right that were rushing about trying to stabilize their patients. Once in the corridor Nazo noticed several distinct changes, one in particular being the smell. Out here it was much more fresh and clean, while in there is smelled only of putrid death. "Peculiar," he noted to himself as they started down the corridor and soon followed by several steps to the hospital's morgue. "You could say something like that. I have a theory, but first I need to see the corpses. Afterwards I may or may not be able to continue from there."Several moments would then pass before the two of them would finally reach the morgue. However unlike with the room the patients were in, Nazo could smell an even worse odor coming from down the corridor this time. Placing a hand on Eri's shoulder as they were half way down the hall to the morgue he would try to stop her, "It might be best..." he paused, the smell was already sdo grotesque it was beginning to overwhelm him. "If I proceed alone, I'm used to quite foul odors." With that he moved to pass her, "I'll report anything I find to you, however I don't wish you to become ill by," He waved his hand through the air, "this."He walked the rest of the way down the hall being careful to take short breaths rather than the long ones he was used to. However, when he opened the door to the morgue he was hit with such an awful change in smell that became so much worse than before that he was nearly floored. Becoming wobbly on his feet he reached for the nearest wall to steady himself. Afterwards he took a few moments to adjust himself before willing his body to move forward. Once inside the morgue he looked around for the records of today's cadaver count alone. Using those records he located the freshest of the corpses and moved to go examine it, however when he opened the compartment where they had been storing the body what he found was so putrid, so foul, that the man was taken aback several steps and actually floored with a loud clatter as he toppled over the examiner's table he tried to catch himself on, knocking over any miscellaneous tools that may have been resting on it. "H-how is this possible? Gufu, how? This is impossible to investigate. Khehe," Quite visible rattled by his findings, he reached across his chest with one arm grasping the bicep of the other arm, however, when he felt something slimy come in contact with his clothing he pulled away his hand and looked down. It was then he noticed the black ooze all over his left hand and right sleeve. It was the same black ooze that had begun to ooze out of the compartment where the corpse had been. "This.... is a problem."Words: 672 | | [newclass=.pic] width: 90px; height: 90px; margin: 0 auto 5 auto; border-radius: 10px;[/newclass][newclass=.pic img]border-radius: 7.5px; width: 90px; height: 90px; [/newclass] |

words;; 309. She was glad to hear that he had a theory; even if it proved wrong, it might end up leading to the answer, and it was more than she had at the moment anyway. Hopefully, his theory wouldn't be disproved by his observation of the cadavers, and they would be several steps closer to figuring the whole thing out. The putrid odor emanating from the morgue was almost enough to send her reeling. It was a hundred times worse than the stench in the room where she'd been working, and it hung so thickly in the air that she could barely breathe - not that she really wanted to at the moment due to said odor. "Perhaps... you are right about that. I've got some papers to file in my office... you'll be able to find me there after you're done." The papers had been sitting on her desk for a week or so by now and they really did need to be put in their proper places. "I'll leave you to it."Eri wasted no time in heading back up the stairs and far, far away from the morgue. The bright white hallway didn't help to assuage her exacerbated senses, and it wasn't until she was in the comfort of her cozy little office that she really felt like she could breathe deeply again. This whole situation was quickly becoming overwhelming, and sometimes the young head medic wished she'd never taken this path. But the rest of the time she knew she wouldn't trade it for the world. She began to sort her papers, putting them in their proper places quickly and efficiently, but her mind wasn't really on the task. Instead, it was focused on an ivory-haired mortician and the gruesome work he was attending to.

--- [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]In the big moment of your life's conclusion, please allow my humble self to lend you a hand. A few long dreary minutes would pass as Nazo collected himself and resituated everything in the room that he had happened to have knocked over. After he had done that he cleaned himself off, nearly gagging as he did so because the smell seemed even more putrid and thick when water was introduced into the room. Once he had cleaned himself he quickly turned off the water and then proceeded across the room to where the ooze that was once a young man was continuing to drip out of a wall container and onto the floor. Squish. At that moment Nazo got an idea. Attaining a small container about three inches wide in diameter and two inches tall he would collect a specimen of the cadaver ooze and quickly seal it off. After that he cleaned up the mess the rest of the cadaver had made, collecting it into a much larger container and returning it to the wall slot. "Interesting, I have never once before seen a poison that has been able to turn a cadaver into nothing but mush in a mere couple of hours." As he said that he noticed a few bones floating in the ooze but nothing too major, "Khehe, well most of it anyway."Once the mess was cleaned up, Nazo took his specimen and left the morgue, more than happy to be free of that absolutely putrid air. It took the mortician no time at all to ascend the stairs to the next level and then begin searching for the Head Medic, whom he would find sitting in her office moments later. "Ah Nagase-chan. I think I have discovered something. Khehe..." He paused a moment as his laughter subsided, "Well... disturbing." He produced the jar of ooze from his side pocket and showed it to her. With the jar completely sealed off no foul odor emnated from it, however it was quite clear in the pocket of air between the ooze and the lid there was some barely visible purple gas filling the space. "Odd, I was quite certain I filled it nearly to the brim."Words: 353 | | [newclass=.pic] width: 90px; height: 90px; margin: 0 auto 5 auto; border-radius: 10px;[/newclass][newclass=.pic img]border-radius: 7.5px; width: 90px; height: 90px; [/newclass] |

words;; 302. Sitting in her office sorting papers was a peaceful activity the likes of which she hadn't done in quite a while; it felt like an eternity since she'd had time at the hospital to do mundane things like file papers and fill out forms and just generally straighten up. This was a much-needed break from the constant work, and she almost wished it would take Nazo another hour or so to confirm his theory and get up here to tell her about it. The medic felt immediate guilt for the thought; it was selfish to want to lounge around in her office. People were still sick and dying of a poison they couldn't cure. She really didn't have time to lounge around and do nothing. A paper slid off her stack and fluttered down to the floor, and she bent down to pick it up right when the door opened. Hastily depositing it on the stack, Eri looked up at Nazo. "What did you find out?" she inquired, curiously inspecting the jar of ooze he had acquired. "What is that?" It didn't look like anything she had ever seen - especially not from a corpse - and the implication was, as he had said, quite disturbing. The purple gas was an oddity as well; it seemed to surprise him, indicating that he hadn't known it was there until that moment. It was the best lead they had so far, and with any luck it would lead them to the solution. Surely this wouldn't be another dead end, would it? Something that was unique to this patient, that didn't appear again, would crush her hopes for the nth time. But that wouldn't happen this time - it couldn't, they needed to get this figured out.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]In the big moment of your life's conclusion, please allow my humble self to lend you a hand. Under any normal circumstances Nazo would have broken down laughing at this point. What was this stuff? This was the cadaver, or rather what was left of it, and guessing by the rate of decomposition Nazo would be safe to assume all of the other's are much worse off than it. "This my dear Eri, is a part of the most recent cadaver." He sat the jar on her desk before folding his arms across his chest within the large sleeves of his overcoat. "It seems that whatever this poison is is causing an accelerated decomposition of the bodies, or rather, it's melting them." He cocked his head to the side a bit, his grin that had faded for several long moments now returning to his features. "I honestly have no clue as to what is causing this effect, but judging by the gas that has formed in that jar, it would be safe to guess that the oldest cadaver you we have in the morgue, might have just been that foul stench we were smelling." He paused thinking about just what this meant for the patients down on the hospital beds, "I have a feeling that we may not be able to save any of them. Furthermore, they're likely decaying from the inside out judging by this." He gestured with his head towards the jar. "Given a bit of time I might be able to come up with an antidote, but in order to do that I would first need time, which we don't have, and pure extract of the poison." He tapped the jar, "This here simply will not do, and unfortunately it seems we may have to 'torture' one of our patients in order to get the poison extract I would need."However there was still that other problem bothering him. Did all of the patients have those same strange marks on their legs? After falling silent for several long moments he spoke up again, "By the way, Nagase-chan. I noticed some odd marks that looked as though bite marks on a young man's leg. Do all of the patients have those same marks?"Words: 357 | | [newclass=.pic] width: 90px; height: 90px; margin: 0 auto 5 auto; border-radius: 10px;[/newclass][newclass=.pic img]border-radius: 7.5px; width: 90px; height: 90px; [/newclass] |

words;; 397. Eri was a bit shocked to hear what the ooze was. Such a strong poison that it's actually turning the bodies to liquid... that's horrible. She had a clear mental picture of what a liquefying body would probably look like, thanks to her vivid imagination, and it was not a pretty picture. One would think that an experienced medic wouldn't get squeamish over something like this, but they were wrong - in this case, at least. It was one thing to look at someone with broken bones or hideous gashes; the blood and bones and raw flesh didn't make her sick to her stomach anymore. That was something you got used to. But.. liquid corpses? The thought sounded immature in her head, but really, that was just gross. "That would certainly explain it." she murmured, still stuck on that awful image of flesh slowly melting, dripping off bones, slipping through the wall slots in the morgue, congealing on the floor.... bones just floating in a puddle of human mush... It was enough to make her queasy again. "That's awful. Those poor people..." His explanation provided little relief for the medic; if what he said was true and they really could not be healed... She would have to watch all of them die too. It had been bad enough when they didn't know whether they could save the patients or not. Now they knew they couldn't, and that made it ten times worse. "Even if we can't save any of the current patients... it would be worth the trouble to have an antidote in case of future incidents." The patients were already in excruciating pain; Nazo's 'torture' to extract the poison couldn't possibly make their suffering much worse. And even if he somehow managed to double their suffering, at least it was for a worthy cause: to make sure no one else had to suffer through that. "We have noticed the bite marks on many patients. Not a hundred percent of them, but that could be explained by the state they're in." After a while, the other medics didn't want to keep examining the patients closely enough to find something like that. "I doubt that any patient we've seen since this outbreak began hasn't had the marks, regardless of whether we noticed them or not."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]In the big moment of your life's conclusion, please allow my humble self to lend you a hand. The mortician folded his arms across his chest as he was evidently deep in thought despite the never vanishing smile plastered across his face. This was certainly a mystery for the record books. To think that flesh could actually be turned into a liquid and then gaseous state. It was amusing to witness, and certainly a puzzle to solve in order to prevent future cases. Not only that but similar puncture wounds had been appearing on most if not all of the victims. That highly suggested that there was some sort of animal involved in this mess, whether it was tamed or wild, now that was the question. Although Nazo could not think of a single wild animal that was capable of producing such a venom as to reduce the flesh to mush. That is unless it was some species of serpent they had yet to meet. "Well then I will have to begin the procedure post haste. First we need to find the newest patient, that one will likely not have the poison as mixed into their flesh and blood as all of the other's." He recollected the jar, returning it to some hidden pocket within his clothing. At that point he turned on the ball of his right foot and began to head out of the room. "Nagase-chan I might require your assistance for this." At that very point Nazo would leave the room, with or without Eri in tow. He then headed down the corridor towards the large room where the patients were being kept and once there searched for a medic that would likely have the information he needed. It took the mortician only moments to find the medic he needed and to acquire the information he had been searching for. At that point he would get two other medics out of that many gathered to help him in transporting the most recent patient to a room where he could begin the procedure without too much issue at all. While the two medic's transferred the young lady to another room, the mortician went to prepare a special liquid to help him with the procedure he was about to perform. It was a liquid that was meant purely for the purpose of attracting and extracting anomalies from the bloodstream. Once he had prepared three batches of the liquid he would tie his lengthy tresses back into a high pony tail and even went as far his to pin his silvery bangs to the side of his head as to allow the man to see well, or at least a bit better than what he could have before with his failing eye sight. Once Nazo entered the separate room, he took note that the two medics present had already took precautions and prepared everything that they might need as well a restrained the patient in case her body convulsed from the procedure. Wheeling the cart with the liquid up next to the table the young lady rested on the mortician would position himself next to her, "I apologize miss, but this procedure may be rather painful, however may also increase your chances of surviving this outbreak." She looked to him with pained eyes, and while already gasping a bit for breath from the effects of her wounds and the poison she simply nodded her head. She knew well from what the other two medics had told her, what the mortician was about to do, and she knew that if she could go back home to her little girl, then she would do anything. Taking a moment for a deep breath, the mortician activated a hand seal which would coat his hands in a glimmering green chakra. "Very well then miss, I'll begin the procedure." Reaching his hand outward he dipped it into the green liquid and when he pulled his hand back out, pulled the liquid out of the pan which in the form of a gelatinous bubble jiggled around a bit as he moved his hand over to the large gash on the woman's leg. Pressing his hand down towards the gash, the liquid would seep into the woman's body which then caused her to scream out in pain. Reaching over another wound located on her shoulder with his other hand, her carefully and delicately pulled the liquid back out of her body. This action caused the woman's body to begin convulsing as he pulled some sort of inky white liquid out of the woman's bloodstream. Reaching over to the now empty pan he would drop the liquid carefully back inside before calling out for the next pan and repeating the process slowly and meticulously. It would be a shame to admit it, but, secretly the man did thoroughly enjoy hearing the woman scream. The sensation he felt as he performed to procedure could have been compared to how a torturer might feel if he was, in a sense, married to his job. words;; 305. Eri had never been more glad to have someone like Nazo. Despite his... oddities, for want of a better word, he was a brilliant medic and poison master whose skills more than rivaled her own - perhaps she was better at the actual healing itself, but in everything else medical he was superior. Now was not the time to dwell on things, however - there was work to be done. She followed him out of her office, being sure to flip of the lights and shut the door behind her. The Head Medic was, for the moment, merely a presence hovering behind the mortician; he had the authority to order the medics to do what he needed them to, and he wasn't hesitant to use said authority to get the newest patient separated from the rest and restrained. It was strange, being an observer where she was usually the one taking action. She felt a little helpless - useless, even, for a moment - because there was nothing she could really do to help out. The medics were taking adequate care of the other patients, and this examination belonged to her ivory-haired friend, who certainly had everything under control and required little assistance. Eri was reminded of the first few weeks she had spent working at the hospital, always feeling a little out of place, a little superfluous; then she had been assigned to helping a former prisoner of war recover, and everything - well, changed, she supposed. She as broken from her reminiscing when the woman screamed, causing her to flinch. Eri would never grow numb enough to not react when a person screamed like that. Nazo didn't seem to have any outward reaction, just continuing on in an extremely professional manner, and she envied him that mask of calm, not knowing what exactly it hid.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]In the big moment of your life's conclusion, please allow my humble self to lend you a hand. As the chakra gathered around his thin finger tips forced the green liquid into her body through the wound on her leg her body would convulse from the immense amounts of pain that racked through it. Her voice screamed out bloody murder, and despite the medics telling Nazo he should probably let her rest for a bit, the mortician showed no mercy. They wanted him to stop? She knew full damn well what she would be getting into with the beginning of this procedure. There was no way to stop it now. Not with her heart racing and her blood becoming more and more contaminated by the moment. No he needed to pull this anomaly out of her now. She was, after all, their only chance of saving future patients and maybe, just maybe, some of the ones they had now. Grasping the liquid with the chakra dancing on the finger tips of his other hand, he would meticulously pull the liquid back out of the woman's body, with it coming out some strange white liquid. Several minutes passed and by the time all of the green liquid had been purged from the writhing woman's body, the entire batch seemed to be tainted with the white anomaly. Once all of the liquid had been purged, he moved to toss it into the empty pan, however just before he released it a strong burning sensation hit his fingertips. Dropping the liquid into the second pan as quickly as he could he would then retract his hand to his body and leap back from the table by several feet. Caressing his burning hand with his other one he looked down to it to get a good estimate of what had happened. "Nagase-chan, please finish the procedure..... and be careful." He spoke with a strong hint of pain in his voice as he felt the fingers of his right hand twitch from the pain. With his golden emerald gaze observing his hand now after he dared to pull it away from the safety of his body he would take note of how his flesh visibly seemed to be partially eaten away on the surface by whatever that ivory liquid was. Observing for a moment as he watched his hand burn and the wound become a bit worse moment by moment he took notice of the ivory liquid that had happened to touch his finger tips. "It is potent. Ah yes very potent indeed." Rushing himself off to a nearby sink he would then attempt to rid himself of the poison from his outer flesh and to mend the burn wounds to his finger tips. While he did this the young woman once again cried out in the purest of agonies.
