Umou's feathers are almost pitch black, with white primaries and a white tail. His head and neck is nearly bare, with a thin layer of down feathers. The long neck and legs keep his head up to 2.8 m above the ground, and having eyes that are said to be the largest of any land vertebrate; he can therefore perceive predators at a great distance. His eyes are shaded from sunlight from above. However, the head and bill are relatively small for the birds' huge size. Umoi has just two toes on each foot , with the nail on the larger, inner toe resembling a hoof. The outer toe has no nail. The reduced number of toes is an adaptation that appears to aid in running, useful for getting away from pursuers and the talons and very well rip through flesh. The bird can run at a speed over 70 km/h (43 mph) and can cover 3 to 5 m (9.8 to 16 ft) in a single stride. The wings reach a span of about 2 metres (6 ft 7 inches). The bird has red paint marking designed on his neck.

Umou, having spend four years with Akaime is a sort of older sibling like figure. While protective of his master, he doesn't seem to go against her wishes, unless of course, he imagines her getting hurt in the process. He is often Akaime's ride in and around the village and on missions.

Why would an ostrich be immune to most poisons? Without an explanation to this in the app, it seems a little out of place.
