[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] Yondaime Hokage
"Being a shinobi means you must sacrifice " | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,border-left: 1.5px solid;] It was an early morning in Konoha. Everyone was preparing to open their shops and stands while the village leader was busy part taking in a little warm sake under cherry blossom trees.
His dirty blonde locks danced in the phlegmatic air which purified his land. ~Ah yes, the Hidden village was in a state of peace. Despite the loss of both his master and father, Shiratama couldn't complain about the village's state. It was very much tranquil but at the same time it was progressing, the economy was where it was suppose to be, the young ninjas of the village were getting stronger, and everyone was happy.
Shira loved that and drank solely for that reason.
But.
He didn't dare let it slip his mind that this state of peace was temporary. That day where he would have to put his strength and shinobi prowess to the test would soon come. It came for all his predecessors so it was expected.
Shiratama took another sip of his sake. He was seated on the soft green grass right by the stream which ran all the way down to the third training ground.
'Sandaime... I wonder if you ever had a chance to celebrate at least one day of peace...'

[/div] His hazel eyes watched the wisps of smoke drift lazily toward the lovely pink blossoms hanging above him and in turn, inevitably the sky. Using one arm comfortanly rested behind his head as a pillow, the Konohagakure Jounin was able to rest under a cherry blossom tree not so far from a tranquil little stream. It was absolutely perfect.
Fluffy white clouds.
Shop owners setting up to sell their wares.
No hot-blooded Uzumaki mother in sight.
Yes, perfect. Nara Shikashu loved days like this the most. Days where all of his genin were off doing their own thing and he was able to relax. He was able to lay here, under a cherry blossom tree, and be as lazy as he wanted to be. He was even able to smoke one of his more expensive and less polluting cigarettes for once. And, of course, even the Hokage had taken this time to relax.
"It's a beautiiful day," he spoke between two puffs of smoke, "wouldn't you agree Yondaime-sama?" The yondaime would likely recognize his voice, heck he would likely have known he was there a long time ago, but with Shikashu being on the opposite side of the tree grove as him, and a few trees down, he likely would not see him without having to crane his neck. music shadowswords dunno dun care notes xxx

"Being a shinobi means you must sacrifice " | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,border-left: 1.5px solid;] The sake serenaded to his soul while the soothing breeze put his body at ease. Shiratama closed his eyes briefly so he could further his enjoyment.
Light footsteps could be heard approaching from the rear. Shiratama suspected that it was his assistant coming to force him back into his office. Sitting behind that mahogany desk wasn't as joyous as most shinobi thought it to be, especially for a man like Shiratama. He wasn't too fond of the fact that he had shinobi out risking their lives for the his and village's sake, he felt like Konoha's protection was only his responsibility while everyone else would be subjected to living comfortable lives.
Being a shinobi is a hardship, it comes with a lot of sacrifices that only few can bear with. Shiratama and along with every other ranked Konoha ninja - including his fellow arriving jounin - were able to shoulder this inevitable hardship and continue to prosper.
Hearing a familiar voice speak out to him, Shiratama smiled and responded casually as if the person were standing in front of him
"Ah, Shikashu-san. I very much do agree"
Nara Shikashu, a very promising jounin with many talents. One obviously being an exceptional strategist and leader. Only few knew of his Uzumaki heritage, Shiratama was lucky enough to discover this through reading his files when he participated in the exams to become a Jounin.
That was years ago though, now the two had a solid friendship and were able to communicate about things other than missions and important shinobi stuff..
"This is what we put our lives on the line for. Do you feel that it is worth it?"
He questioned, chuckling a bit since he pretty much knew what Shikashu's answer would be.

[/div] Shikashu let out a low chuckle. What kind of a question was that? Of course it was worth it. They had to protect the King after all. "Pfft what kind of question is that, Shiratama?" Shikashu removed the cigarette from his lips with his free hand before exhailing a large plume of smoke, "It would be too much of a pain in the ass if someone didn't do it." He smirked, not that Shiratama would likely see it, "If we're able to have days like this," He put the cigarette butt out on the heel of his combat boot, "Then I'll weather any sort of day, pain in the ass or not, just so I can some day see the children smile again."
He spoke the truth. It was for that reason, or rather partially that reason, he became a shinobi in the first place. He wanted to be able to protect his friends. He be able to laugh and have fun, yet be able to help in everyone's time of need. He didn't want to feel useless.
Sitting up abruptly, Shikashu took a moment to light another cigarette before standing up. Once on his feet he took a few moments to walk over to where Shiratama was sitting and leaned against the tree behind him before ruffling through one of the pockets in his flak jacket. "So I have a question for you..." He continued to speak as his fingers searched in the pocket for a little slip of paper that they continued to fail to find for several moments still. music second verse same as the first words why do I care here? notes xxx

"Being a shinobi means you must sacrifice " | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,border-left: 1.5px solid;] Shiratama gave a nod to his fellow jounin, he was absolutely correct. Shira probably couldn't have said it any better. He took another sip of his sake and then set his cup down onto his lap.
"Feel free to ask me anything Shikashu-san"
He answered as he glanced over at the cherry-haired shinobi through his peripheral. It had seemed that he had something snugged up in his pocket. Shiratama waited patiently for Shikashu to reveal what it was.

[/div] It took the jounin quite a long while, but eventually he produced from his pocket a slim piece of card paper, folded into fourths. He handed it to Shiratama before continuing on. "My mom wants to hold a huge celebration gathering thing for who knows what, she didn't give me an answer when I asked, but she absolutely demanded I ask if you would come to it." Shikashu sighed, "You know that Uzumaki. She doesn't take no for an answer and she can cook up a feast fit for an Akimichi family." With that Shikashu put up his index and middle fingers around the cigarette between his lips and took a long drag from it before blowing out a long thin stream of smoke towards the sky.
"Whaddya say? Wanna come along? Choukurou will probably be there too along with some of the other Jounin. Could be like old times ya know." Of course Shiratama was nearly an entire decade older than Shikashu, but that didn't mean the two hadn't been steadfast friends for quite a long time. Probably since Shikashu's teens.
Casting a glance downward towards Shiratama with his face still angled towards the sky, Shikashu would patiently await the Hokage's answer. music xxx words xxx notes xxx

"Being a shinobi means you must sacrifice " | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,border-left: 1.5px solid;]As Shikashu presented him the piece of folded up paper, Shiratama couldn't help but smile. He casually took the paper from the jounin and held it within his grasp. He wanted to open it and read it but Shikashu had already began discussing what it was about. The Hokage's face lit up after hearing out the jounin "Oh? A gathering you say? Hm, I am honored to have been invited to such an riveting event! If my schedule permits it, you can count on my appearance"A delightful chuckle escaped the Hokage's lips. It was not often he was invited to places, especially places with entertainment and fun. He wanted to take advantage of this opportunity but he was afraid his job was going to intervene. He poured himself another cup of sake and took out an extra cup for Shikashu. He poured some sake for him as well. "I'm actually glad that you came here Shikashu-san. In a few days I sha'll be hosting a meeting with the leader of the Grass village. I would like it if your team took up the [Minesweep Mission] on the Kanōmori path. The Grass Daimyo and her escorts will be passing through there." | | |

[/div] Shikashu sat down next to Shiratama, however declined the sake. "Sorry but I learned from last time. Sake and Cigs don't go well together." He then let out a long stream of smoke in a direction away from the Hokage. "Ah great. My mom will be happy to hear that. Maybe for once she won't throw me across the room." Shikashu let out a weak laugh at that. Despite her son being a lot larger than she was, when she was pissed off his mother could still manage incredible feats such as throwing him across the room, and since Shikashu didn't fight women, let alone his own mother, he never fought back to stop her from doing it. That's why he had to tread on egg shells. At least it was less of a pain than standing up to her.
"Oh? Iou will be happy to hear that. Well Yanmei, and Hoji probably will be too, but that's my brother for you. So excited about everything that he comes running to a team meeting being chased by bees. Please tell me these mines aren't horribly lethal or anything. Iou would likely set them off." That was the truth. Iou was rarely ever in a serious mood, and unless he would be for the mission, he could end up killing the lot of them. music xxx words xxx notes xxx
