Mental &Physical INFECTED BY YOUR WAYS WE STAND ► AppearanceHeight: 5'11". Weight: 152 lbs. Hair Color: Gray. Eye Color: Magenta.
Amaterasu is almost six feet tall, with a slim, slightly muscular build and an extremely ample bosom. Her features are generally quite plain, aside from her bright, almost haunting, magenta eyes. They are the only standout feature on the woman, due to having pale skin and light gray hair that hangs to her shoulders - fairly nondescript features.
Perhaps the first thing someone would notice about Amaterasu - aside from her bosom - is the fact that her neck, left arm, and left leg are always wrapped in bandages for a reason she won't admit to anyone. That reason being that she's covered in scars, and she is a little bit vain, not wanting them displayed for the world to see.
Simply put, Amaterasu hates clothes, and if she could get away with walking around naked, she probably would. Instead, she wears a short, sheer chemise-type dress that's a dull blue with black trimming. It's the only thing she really feels comfortable in. ► Mental AssessmentAmaterasu is a loner at heart. She never had any friends growing up, just her father and his less-than-savory companions, and thus she never learned how to socialize. Conversations are extremely awkward for her because she really just doesn't know how to act around people. And, after quite a few social failings, she's decided that she doesn't want to know.
Amaterasu's the exact opposite when it comes to shinobi skills. She's dedicated to her lifestyle and to improving her skills. On the battlefield, she's relentless, and fights till she drops, always trying to get better, to last longer. Being a shinobi is what she loves, more than anything else; the way she talks about it, you'd think she had married the profession.
While she may be a nukenin, Amaterasu isn't exactly a hardened criminal. All of the major crimes she's committed were at the instruction of her father. Since he died, she's tried her best to stay out of the spotlight and away from crime. If not for the fact that she's afraid of what might happen, she probably would have tried to seek acceptance in a shinobi village. But since she assumes she'd just be imprisoned or killed, that's not an option.
She doesn't have a positive outlook on the world; she's figured that enough bad things happen, even to good people, that the good can't possibly outweigh it. Her pessimism is quite evident, making even her mere presence a bit gloomy. And to add to that, whenever she has the money to blow she ends up drunk (or close to it, anyway), and either giggly or even more gloomy, depending on how much alcohol she has consumed. ► likes- origami

► Background InformationAmaterasu is the second child of Jirou and Yuriko Koyanagi. At the time, Jirou was the captain of Amegakure's ANBU division; Yuriko, however, was a stay-at-home mother. She'd never been a shinobi, finding the profession a little too grizzly for her tastes. Her place was at home, taking care of Koji, the pair's first child, and Amaterasu, while Jirou took on dangerous, but rewarding, missions.
Koji and Amaterasu were like any other children, really. They loved each other, but were constantly fighting over the silliest things, like who deserved the last cookie and which one of them was the better child. Their mother spoiled them rotten, and though she begged with Jirou to let the children be children instead of throwing them into the life of shinobi. Jirou was adamant that his children follow in his footsteps, however, and when Yuriko continued to fight him, he began to physically abuse her until she relented.
So Koji entered the Academy at five, earlier than children were usually admitted - Jirou had pulled some strings with the village's leader to allow his children early entrance. And Koji excelled at it. He bragged all the time about how he was the best student in his class, and how he'd grow up to be an even better shinobi than his father. This only made Amaterasu even more eager to attend the academy - so she could study twice as hard as him and use her kick-ass shinobi skills to beat up her brother.
The next year, Amaterasu was admitted to the academy at the same age as Koji had been. And, as one might think, she was just as good as her brother had been. Jirou began giving the two of them extra lessons whenever he had the time, to help them excel even quicker and possibly earn an early graduation, too. His mean side quickly made another appearance here; when Koji failed to complete the exercise that had been set for him, Jirou hit the boy. When Amaterasu came to his defense, Jirou hit her too. The children were too scared to say anything to their mother, but what could she have done? Argued with him and earned herself a beating too?
Though the children were beginning to grow scared of their father, they kept at the extra training, and sometimes even worked on their own. They really didn't want to disappoint him again, of course. And their hard work paid off; both children were number one in their classes by the end of the school year. They didn't get the time off to rest, though; Jirou pushed them to train constantly, leaving them exhausted at the end of every day. They did improve, however, and that was what their father wanted, so they didn't complain.
Amaterasu's second year in the academy wasn't much different from the first. She was ahead of the other students in regard to physical skills due to the rigorous training her father put her through, and she was book smart enough to get by. But the first time she brought home a low grade on a written test... Her father beat her black and blue, and she was injured enough that she had to miss several days of school - which, of course, she was also punished for, though not quite as severely.
Most of the next year, Amaterasu's third at the academy, passed uneventfully. The seven year old girl was proving to be quite an adept study, and all was going well at home, too. Until that night. Yuriko was upset because Jirou didn't get home when he was supposed to, and Amaterasu stayed up to comfort her mother until he did show up. And show up he did... with a few of Amegakure's most valuable scrolls in tow. He didn't waste times or words, knocking his wife unconscious and dragging his daughter out of the house, scrolls tucked in her school bag.
Koyanagi Jirou had become a nukenin, and he'd brought his youngest child with him. After they had escaped the shinobi pursuing them, Jirou took Amaterasu to his friend's house, where they stayed for a couple months while the men set up meetings and contacts and whatever else nukenin did. The girl, obviously, was confused and upset. Jirou had taken her, but not Koji - he'd given no thought to what might happen to Yuriko and Koji without him - and he was even colder to his daughter than he had been before.
The next year was a difficult one. They quickly learned of the destruction of Amegakure at the hands of the Gobi and Kyuubi, which marked the beginning of the girl's depression. Her mother and brother were most likely dead, and her father couldn't even spare a moment to mourn them. No, they continued traveling, he kept pushing her harder and harder in training, and she kept failing to meet his expectations, which were set higher than any child could hope to reach. She ended each day black and blue, hardly able to walk, and then had to get up the next morning and do it all over again.
The years passed in this manner - traveling to avoid pursuers, constant, brutal training, and beatings - until she was twelve. That was when her father presented her with the first gift she had ever received from him: the scroll containing the secrets of the Shikigami no Mai. She was told to learn the techniques it contained, or else. While that wasn't very encouraging, it nonetheless inspired Amaterasu to work harder than ever, to try to learn the secrets of the paper techniques. But each time she stood before her father and attempted to perform the base technique, she failed miserably, due to her ninjutsu skill not being on the level of the technique. And Jirou punished her for it.
He did up her ninjutsu training, however, and she made quick progress, enough that by the time she hit thirteen, she was able to use the Shikigami no Mai. Not well, mind you, and it certainly wasn't a complete use of the technique - she had merely managed to turn part of her arm into paper and get a couple of the sheets to fly at her father. Her reward for this success? A slightly less brutal beating. Jirou had truly become hardened by this point, and she had come to the realization that he was never going to, say, congratulate her and give her a hug, or anything like that. But at least he cared, right? He cared enough to motivate her, to spur her into success. That thought allowed her to bear the brunt of his anger without complaint.
On her fifteenth birthday, Amaterasu killed for the first time. Her father had captured another rogue that had fled from Amegakure before its destruction. He planned on setting the man loose and letting Amaterasu chase him down and kill him. Thing did not go exactly as planned. See, this rogue was more skilled than the girl, and he managed to turn the tables on her. She'd chased him for at least an hour, when suddenly he just stopped running, turned to face her... and proceeded to beat her into the ground. But he got cocky, overconfident, thought that there was no way he could lose. He decided to have a little fun with the girl before he killed her.
He played with her for what felt like hours, till she really wanted to die, till she'd almost given up any hope of finding an opportunity to kill him. But the opportunity came, that golden moment arrived, and Amaterasu sent a kunai flying into his throat. She dragged the body back to present to Jirou, but he saw the look in her eyes, her tattered clothing, the way she hung her head, and he knew that she had almost been defeated. She had never seen him as angry as he was that night.
He didn't just beat her. He tortured her, for hours. Carving into her flesh with kunai, burning her with katon techniques, never relenting. He probably would have killed her if not for the intervention of the woman he'd been doing - she was also a nukenin, and they'd decided to work together for a while. She came to investigate the screaming she'd heard - figuring that Jirou was cheating on her and having really kinky sex with some other girl - but instead he found Jirou standing over his nearly dead daughter. She was able to convince him to allow her to heal the girl, and that she did. It took quite a while, but she was able to stabilize Amaterasu, though she had to continue treating her for over a week, and that was just to heal some of the worst wounds. This incident resulted in most of the scars Amaterasu has, the ones she covers with bandages all the time.
Shortly after this, she managed to master the base technique of the Shikigami no Mai, and then mastering some of the other techniques was quite a simple matter. Amaterasu was shaping up to be a fine shinobi, a tool sharpened to perfection for her father's use. And use her he did. Any time he needed someone dead, he sent her after them. She never failed, of course. Their lives proceeded as usual until Amaterasu was eighteen.
Jirou wanted her to prove that she was powerful enough for him to keep around. He still doubted her abilities, despite how many times she'd succeeded. And so he tasked her with wiping out a village in Rivers Country. It wasn't a shinobi village, but it was large, and killing every single one of its inhabitants would be difficult. Amaterasu didn't want to kill them - didn't want to waste so many human lives for the sake of a test - but she craved her father's approval, his love, and so she did it. She wiped out the village, leaving not a single person alive, and razed the place to the ground.
And for the first time in her life, her father was really and truly proud of her. He congratulated her, promised he'd give her something special, said he loved her. Amaterasu thought that it could only be uphill from there.
Well, not exactly. Her father went hunting - trying to sniff out a man he'd had a feud with for almost a decade - and never came back. Amaterasu woke up one morning and found his decapitated head sitting on the porch of their house. She was really and truly alone, and had no idea what to do with herself. How could she cope without him forever? Sure, he'd taken little trips over the years, but he'd always come back. Always. And now he was gone. What was she supposed to do?
For the past two years, Amaterasu has been hiding out in Hot Water Country, in an out-of-the-way village that had never heard of her or her father. No one had managed to find her there, but it's only a matter of time. She's been training on her own, trying to improve, but she feels so lost and alone. She turned to alcohol to numb her pain and spends much of her time drunk. And she hasn't killed a single person since that day.
