"Mito!"
Oh crap! What time was it? She didn't mean to oversleep! She knew that she had a lot of things to do today! Things with her mother. That usually happened rarely, and when it did, the girl was usually excited to go out with her mom. It was a special bonding time that the two rarely ever had due to her mother's kunoichi life, along with her dad.
She rushed to get dressed, putting on her casual outfit. She didn't plan on doing any fighting today, but she typically wore the same style of clothing for everything. It didn't matter what she was doing, her outfit typically match - or with along with - whatever she was planning on doing. After putting all her clothes on, and proceeded to brushing her hair, rushing so her mom wouldn't be upset.
Once again she was called, "Mito!"
This time, the yell was a bit more stern and louder. "Coming!"
Without really finishing, she fumbled down the stairs and arrived in front of her mother who was sitting down in the kitchen with a letter of some sort. Her mother didn't look in the least bit as though she was about to go out shopping, or whatever they were actually going to do today. What was going on? Why was she rushed downstairs? What time was it anyways? Mito forgot to check while she was getting ready.
"What's up, mom?" The girl asked curiously.
"Mito, you have been assigned to another mission. Luckily for you, however, the person who sent the request for the mission should be awfully familiar to you. You may just love it."
The girl could hear the sarcasm in the last sentence of her mother's voice. She had only gone on one mission since she graduated the academy, and she really didn't like the idea of the mission - as far as her mother knew anyways. So obviously, her mom figured that she would hate the request of having another mission from the dog owner.
Besides that, her mother's voice was soft and gentle. So far, she had been the one who told Mito her missions. She was fully aware that she only had one so far, excluding the one that she currently had to deal with, but she could just expect that the majority of her first missions would be announced by her mother. At least until she was able to start squad missions. Then, she could just assume that things would change.
"I request the same child who returned my dog, Kou to me just the other day. I noticed that he has taken a liken to you, and I would love it if you took him for a walk today. Not an ordinary walk, however, a long and tiring one. He has to be worn out when he return because we are moving and I don't need the additional struggle of him tearing up everything."
"Nope! Uh-uh. Not happening. Not another dog mission!"
Her mother began to wrap the scroll up again, and nodded the child off. She was aware that she knew where the woman's house was, so she really didn't need anything but the brief information of the mission. "You have to sweetie, now go ahead, Mito."
The girl sighed heavily. Her second mission, and once again, it was containing to dogs. When was she going to get a real mission where she would be able to prove off her shinobi skills. She didn't understand how taking a dog for a walk was an act of being a kunoichi. She was told that the last mission was a test of her searching ability, but she didn't really buy it. She was just looking for a lost dog in a limited space.
Mito had to inquire about this with her mother. Missions involving dogs didn't seem all too promising to her shinobi career. It didn't seem like it would help in the least bit with anything. Why was this even part of the mission system. Besides the required pay, Mito could do any of these tasks on a regular basis.
"Mom..."
She started, she was just going to ask bluntly.
"How will these missions help me at all? I'm finding dogs and walking them, that don't seem, in the least bit, like a task for a shinobi, you know? It just seems like something an old woman would pay the boy next door to do. Are these really the tasks of a shinobi? Did you do things like this when you were younger?"
The girl was rambling with her words like she did often. She had so many different questions just for this one topic, and wanted to know the answer to all of them. Not that she would forcibly get them, but it was important for her to know.
"Well,"
She started off slowly with a sentence beginner; she always did that and Mito has grown aware and accustomed of such a trait.
"I didn't have missions quite like this, but missions of this level? Yes. All rookie genin go through this stage in their shinobi career. It's the chance for you to get used to getting requested for work and attending such. Some of the most simplest tasks can prove worthy later on down the road, and won't be so apparent when you first try them. It's the way the ninja world work."
She could read the look of concern on her daughter's face.
"Trust me Mito, they will get harder and more interesting later on when you grow stronger and have completed a good few missions. I promise."
"Whatever, I guess I have to do it anyways."
Arriving to the woman's house, Mito knocked on the door lightly. It had took her only a few minutes to get there after ending her conversation with her mother. Her words were encouraging, and Mito had a new mind and attitude towards the mission she was about to perform.
The woman came to the door, and her expression was bright upon seeing the face of the child.
"Great! You're here! I'll go get Kou for you. I'll bet he'll be so happy to see that you're here!"
With that, she walked back in the house. Mito stayed put in her position, as she didn't want to enter her house, especially since she didn't actually give her permission to anyways. Her mother taught her enough manners on things like that. That didn't stop her from peeking in, though. By nature, she was curious, given her young age, and when given the chance to explore, she usually took it.
Her house could be described in two words: A mess. The fact that she was moving was now both obvious and apparent as there were boxes everywhere with clothes scattered around on the floor. Mito hoped that her next mission wouldn't be helping her move the boxes. That just wouldn't happen and besides, her size and frame was a bit too small for that anyways.
The woman returned with Kou on a leech and upon seeing the child, the dog ran over and jumped up on his hind legs; patting the bottom of the girl's dress with his front ones.
"You see! I knew he liked you. Take as long as you need!"
The child nodded, and then grabbed hold of the dog's leech. She started her way to the street and crouched down. She started to pet the dog's head, while it sat wagging its tail. Mito always loved dogs and always seemed to build some sort of connection with them quickly, even if acquainted for a small amount of time. Some of her friends in the academy noted it as his gift with dogs, or all animals in general.
Dogs loved her, and she loved dogs. It came naturally.
If Mito's goal was to tire the dog out, she had to make sure that the dog was tired before her. From experience, she knew that dogs usually didn't get tired so quickly and could keep moving for long periods of time. That is, until they get too hot.
Forming a set of hand seals, the girl once again would make a set of hand seals creating a clone. She would use the clone created as the start of the walking exercise-type thing she was thinking of, in order to preserve her energy for a longer period of time. Without really needing to hold on to the leach, Mito directed her clone on what to do with the dog, and a good way to easily tire Kou out.
The plan started with running.
Then ducking.
Next came some jumping.
It was like a maze and obstacle course all in one with this mission. Mito grabbed onto the leech as she dispersed her clone, hearing that the dog was beginning to take longer and exaggerated deep breaths.
Dogs didn't sweat and they overheated fast and could potentially die if that happened. Mito's mission was to tire the woman's dog out, not to kill Kou, so she had to make sure that she was careful with what she was doing. She had to get the dog really tired without pushing it too far to where the dog died. Simple enough.
Mito would spend the next hour doing simple activities like running around the training fields and around the free areas of the village. She ran every now and then, but for the most part, she was walking. After a full four hours of working, she returned the dog back to the house. She was a bit more out of breath than the dog seemed to be. Immediately, after the woman opened the door, Kou walked over to his bowl for water. The woman thanked her and Mito nodded as she walked off, tired.
Second mission: success. Mission accomplished.
