She didn't really know why he had wanted her to come with him, or why he was cooking for her - she knew she probably annoyed the piss out of him a lot of the time, because the Yamanaka girl would be the first to admit that sometimes she didn't know when to shut up or let something (or some one) go. He had to have some sort of fondness for her at the same time, though - otherwise he wouldn't bother actually talking to her - whether he was fabricating his words half the time or not. Which she didn't really understand. She was prickly and sarcastic and probably annoying because sometimes it seemed like she liked her own voice too damn much. Eh. She wasn't an expert in figuring out how a person thought, and she wasn't about to become one sitting there at the Uchiha's table. So instead of thinking about what he was thinking, she just watched him work. And, surely enough, as the meat started cooking, her stomach started growling. The morning's breakfast seemed so far away now. And, well, it smelled so good that she doubted it would taste bad. Usually - at least, from her own misadventures in the kitchen - things started smelling bad once something went wrong. When the Uchiha had put the meat away to cool and sat down across from her, only then did he speak, and Inori shrugged. "I seem to keep running into more of you." she muttered under her breath. "Uchihas everywhere. I went on a mission with one-" - hopefully he wouldn't notice the slight blush on her face at the thought of the brown-haired Uchiha boy Ichiro - "And I saved one's cat from death by pissed-off butcher, and apparently I'm going to be on a 'special team' with him. I think you're all growing on me.. Like a fungus." She sounded slightly irritated at the thought, but to be quite honest, she didn't mind that thought quite as much as she had used to. Although her father might have a different opinion on that matter... words 386 tags satori notes 2683 our broken hearts and twisted minds |

So, he was right... she did have a crush on an Uchiha. He'd already warned her about that before, but it seems as though she ignored his advice, "So, you like this boy that much, do you?" He stared at her for a moment before closing his eyes, letting out a little sigh while tapping a finger on the table, "Well, if you didn't listen to me the first time, I doubt saying it again will mean anything." He opened her eyes again, letting his head list to the side a bit. The Uchiha were a strange bunch. Cursed with the Sharingan, 'the eye that reflects feelings'. Most saw the power of the eye as a blessing, but in truth, that same power led any who unlocked it down the path of madness. The stronger it becomes, the more it's influence grows... and the further down the path of darkness that Uchiha will fall. Becoming the focus of an Uchiha's affection would only lead to suffering for both parties. But, it would seem that they would have to learn that for themselves.
Satori sighed again and leaned back into his chair, "On one hand, it's good that you're learning to look past what your father taught you and base your opinion on your own experiences as opposed to those of others. But... there is a reason that he hates the Uchiha in particular. A very good reason at that." The man cupped his chin with one hand, hesitating for a moment before shrugging. There was more to explain here than he was comfortable with at the moment. Soon he would be able to tell her what she needed to know, but not now. "In any case... aren't you supposed to be doing something else right now? Or should I believe that your parents allowed you to run after a stranger and spend the better half of the afternoon with him?"

I didn't say that. I don't like him. Much. he's just another boy, alright?" If anything, her defensive words probably only made him more likely to believe that she had a crush on the boy. And, as a matter of fact - she did remember him saying something about the fact that getting involved with an Uchiha would only hurt her in the end... It wasn't like she was planning on getting involved with him in the first place. He was just. Another. Boy. And there was nothing more to it than that, whatever he wanted to believe. "Seriously. Don't give me that look. I don't even want a boyfriend or anything." Besides, she doubted the boy felt anything for her anyway. Inori shrugged. "Well... y'know, the more I thought about it, I just figured.. it's kind of dumb to hate someone just because your father hates them or whatever. You're not all the spawn of the devil, although he'd probably disagree." He had kind of taught her to hate the clan with their special eyes and whatnot, and it had stuck with her until she had actually met a couple Uchihas and found out that they weren't all as bad as he claimed. "He never did tell me why he hates you all so much.. do you actually know what happened?" If she spoke of it, he got angry, and when Inodori got angry... It wasn't pretty, to say the least. Inori had definitely gotten her temper from her father. "Eh.. Well... They've probably got my brother running the shop, and maybe they don't exactly know where I went..." she admitted, chuckling nervously. "Trust me, if my father knew I was fraternizing with an Uchiha, he would never let me out of the house again."words 312 tags satori notes 2995 our broken hearts and twisted minds |

But he only smirked and chuckled softly when she told him to cut it out. What had it been like, when he was that age? It was so long ago now that he could hardly remember. Twenty years wasn't /that/ long of a time, but for a shinobi, that may as well have been five lifetimes. He rubbed his chin again as he thought about it. There hadn't really been anything that he would have considered a relationship, although he briefly wondered if Haruka's bullying counted for anything. Probably not, even if she did admit to only doing it because she did like him. He was still a bit sore about the whole ordeal...
When she asked about her father, he simply offered a shrug, "It's not really my place to say. But, I'm sure you'll learn the truth soon enough." He realized that he was being awfully cryptic lately, but there wasn't much that could be done about that. After all, it would be very... premature if he were to tell her anything yet. Some things had to be discovered on their own; after all, you can only help those who help themselves. He raised a hand, pointing up to the ceiling with one finger, "That's mighty irresponsible of you, young lady. But... I won't tell if you won't. I'm sure you'll come up with some kind of excuse for your absence. I don't doubt your prediction of your father's reaction. Especially considering what today is..." He hesitated, letting the rest of the sentence fall off before rising from his seat, "Ah, well, forget I said anything." With that, he headed back into the kitchen to see if the pork buns were ready yet.

"I-I told you not to look at me like that." she muttered under her breath, crossing her arms over her chest and glaring at him. "Just because you think I have a crush on a stupid boy... Ugh. Freaking Uchiha." She looked quite sullen about the whole thing, which would likely just amuse him. "Yeah, right. He'll never tell me. He wants to 'preserve my innocence' or whatever. He doesn't tell me anything unless he absolutely has to. I can't even get information out of him by pouting." Inori grumbled. She loved her father, and really, she was 'daddy's little girl,' but there was a limit to what she found endearing. "Come on. Tell me. It's not like I'll run to Daddy and tell him you told me or anything." He probably wouldn't take the bait - and if her pouting didn't even work on her father, it certainly wouldn't work on Satori. "Oh, yes, because it's peak flower-purchasing season. Besides you, the only other customer we had today was an old cat lady. No one's going to die if they have to wait a little while to get their flowers.. Unless they're a boyfriend that's in major trouble, but well, that would be his own damn fault in that case." Inori pointed out, shrugging. "I know I shouldn't have ditched, it is my job, but I couldn't see you moping around and not figure out why." Then she grinned. "Oh, yes, I'll have a good excuse, don't you worry your pretty little head about it."words 290 tags satori notes 3285 our broken hearts and twisted minds |

He didn't think she had a crush, he knew she did. It was as plain as day to anyone with even the slightest of experience in the field, "Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that. Just make sure that you believe that yourself when your father asks you, because his reaction won't be as mild as mine." He knew it was probably bad to continue egging her on, but it was true. If it didn't fool him, it certainly wouldn't fool a father's intuition.
As for the story of why her father hated Uchiha... maybe he would be the one to tell it to her, but he was still resolute in his silence for now. If that time did come, it would certainly be well in the future. He heard the rest of what she said as he entered the kitchen and sighed, letting his shoulders sag a bit. Really, this girl... she was so... devious. Were all children like that these days? Or was she just her own person? He pushed the thought out of his head as he opened the fridge and tapped at the mixture he'd made earlier. Once he determined it was cool enough, he took the wok out and placed it on the counter beside the dough.
He pulled out a few sheets of wax paper and spread them out on the countertop; covering it in a thin layer of flour. Then he kneaded the ball of dough on the lightly floured surface until it was smooth and elastic. Once it was ready, he rolled the dough into a long roll, and divided it into twenty four pieces, then flattened each piece with the palm of his hand to form a thin circle. The center of the circle was a little thicker than the edge to form a small bowl shape. With that prepared, he grabbed a spoon and shoveled a bit of the pork mixture onto each piece of dough; curling the dough up with his hands before pinching off the top to seal it into a bun. Once all twenty four were finished, he put them all on a large ceramic platter and brought them back into the dining room, placing the tray in the center of the table for Inori to take from before settling back into his seat, leaning to one side with his knuckles supporting his head at the chin. "And just what is this brilliant excuse of yours, Inori?"

I don't have a crush on anyone, most certainly not a prissy little Uchiha boy." She made a face at him. He was right, though. If she even gave the slightest hint that she might have a crush on an Uchiha - not that she did - to her father, he would either lock her in her bedroom for the rest of her life or strangle her or something. He really would not approve of that. Unfortunately, her attempts to get the story out of him were in vain, as he remained silent on the matter. Inori sighed. Well, someone would have to tell her eventually, be it her father or Satori or someone else. She supposed she would just have to be content to wonder about it until then, no matter how much she disliked the prospect. Freaking adults and their secret-keeping. Quite the pain in the ass, if you asked her. He brought the pork buns in, and Inori's mouth began to water. "I hope these taste as good as they smell." she commented, reaching for one and taking a small bite out of it. After a long moment of silence, she gave the Uchiha's cooking a nod of approval. "Better than I expected. They're quite tasty." Although she wasn't sure why he had made a full two dozen of them... She didn't have that big of an appetite, and she was sure he didn't either, so he'd probably be eating pork buns for the next several days. Inori concentrated on eating the pork bun, and didn't bother giving him an answer until it was gone. "Well, I haven't exactly figured that out yet... But it'll be good, I promise."words 298 tags satori notes 3583 our broken hearts and twisted minds |

Just moments ago she'd been saying how Uchiha weren't so bad, now she was already chewing out this boy he didn't know. Really, she wasn't helping her case, but he knew the futility in pushing the issue any further, so he chose to drop it instead.
He learned forward in the chair and folded his arms over each other, watching the girl as she ate with dull eyes. The man didn't bother taking any for himself- he wasn't hungry. After a few of the buns had already been eaten, he'd finally speak again, "It was... surprisingly nice to have you here, Inori. Maybe we can convince your father to come around next year." He gave her an innocent smile, knowing how something like that would turn out. Still... he wasn't completely joking. "Feel free to take as many as you like home with you, unless you think you can't explain that away either."

Have you seen the Uchiha boys that are around my ages? Prissy little Uchiha princes, most of them have their heads up their asses, and they all need a good punch to the face." Inori snorted, shaking her head. "I said not all of you are bad. But most of the boys need some work before I'd classify them as 'not bad.'" Well, Takezo - the kid, as she'd taken to calling him - wasn't exactly prissy. He was the opposite of that, in fact. But she looked at him more like a little brother than anything else. And well, she supposed the one she totally did not have a crush on wasn't bad. He was actually cheerful, and didn't have the Forest of Death stuck up his ass like some of them. But that didn't mean she liked him. Nope. Not at all. Inori raised a brow at him. "Nice, huh? Well, it was nice to chill with you and eat your food, I guess." She grinned. Really, Satori didn't irritate her half as much as he had when they had first met, although she supposed a lot of that was her fault for being ridiculously snappy at him. Seeing his innocent smile, she snorted. "Next year? Uh-huh. More like a couple of decades, and even then it would be iffy." She could tell that he wasn't entirely joking, but she knew how that would turn out, and his slight optimism was completely misplace. There was no way in the seven hells her father would ever consent to coming to visit the Uchiha Clan Head. "Now that's easy. I can just say I bought them somewhere." Inori pointed out. And she was definitely going to take a few. She couldn't let the man suffer from an overabundance of pork buns, after all. After gathering a few to take with her, Inori sighed. "I probably should get going, or my parents are going to kill me. Seeya later, Uchiha. And for the love of god, and the hope of ever getting laid... It was common for an Uchiha to act a bit stuck up... both because of the clan's standing within the village and because of the clan's legacy. Maybe one day he'd tell Inori about that, too. But maybe not. He didn't want to make it seem like he was trying too hard to dissuade her from interacting with any of the Uchiha that were her own age, but...
He shrugged, "Maybe if I apologize really hard, Inodori will forgive me. Please, sir." He added a little joke at the end there. Satori didn't have much respect for his position. He'd readily prostrate himself before someone if he could get something he wanted out of it. Who knows, maybe her father would forgive him one day. When the girl was gathering up the pork buns to go, Satori rose to his feet and walked over to the door, holding it open with one hand so that she could easily step out. "Good luck with that."
He waited until she left the house before speaking, "I don't think I have to worry about that, girl. After all, I got to spend my birthday with someone who will grow into a fine woman some day." Sato offered her a sly smirk before slapping the door shut after her, chuckling to himself as he headed back into the kitchen...
